if vitali had defended himself, he'd not have been cut. plain and simple, vitali was found wanting in the defence area.
But he was beating the living daily lights out of him though. Also Lennox does not beat his opponents with cuts and doctor stoppages, and Vitali does not lose due to cuts and doctor stoppages. Cuts and doctor stoppages are rare, especially if the person being cut is the one ahead on score cards. This is not some skill that Lennox learned to do on his last fight, hence why he retired, because he could NOT pull it off again.
Whoever is winning the fight is irrelevant. If the doctor thinks it's unsafe for the fighter to continue then that's that.
