The 70s is more like 25-35 pounds less on average than the current era and they would be crushed H2H

Also, while the heavyweight limit is currently at 200 pounds there are virtually no guys in the top 10 under 223 pounds. This would exclude Frazier, Norton, Ali, etc from serious contention if we are going merely by weight.

Marciano is so bad that I would pick people like Manny Pac to beat him. If one 160 pound fighter in Ted Lowry could rough him up, beat him, and almost knock him out then why couldn't other middleweights do it? @Cojimar 1946 : Yep you might be right about it. Yet you will see the classics scream how good the 70s heavy era was. Ohhhmmm. The weights nowadays suggest that you better be over 220 pound or ripped to the **** like Wilder was with 214.

Marciano was strong for his weight, he would be an absolute superb Lightheavy. Pac is not gonna beat good 175 pounders. But you can argue for Hearns, Spinks and Quawi giving a good performance against Marciano, but I see only Spinks pulling it off.

If you define a bad era as one in which the heavyweights cannot compete today than for sure I would agree that Marciano's era was not a good era H2H but I think the same is true for many other eras. I doubt many heavyweights prior to the 1990s would be competitive today.

180 pound Roland LaStarza out box Marciano and got robbed. 160 pound Ted Lowry bullied Marciano around the ring, toyed with him, and almost knocked him out. Marciano couldn't carry Butterbean's jockstrap.

There is an important component to trying to bring a great fighter down on thin forum.

    Subtlety!

I honestly don't think that your campaign is making many people reevaluate their opinions of Rocky Marciano!

Yes, I agree. Evolution takes thousands of years. The division cannot Naturally evolve from one decade to the next.

Ted lowery was 3lb lighter than Rocky. A veteran of 123 fights who could take great fighters the distance.

Who is this 160 pounder you talk about???

Lol Marciano fans are the most brain dead ******s on the planet. I couldn't give a damn about changing the opinions of ******ed people.

Marciano isn't a great a fight. He was a piece of trash even for his era. Not only was his a piece of trash he was a 180 pound piece of trash. If you think weight classes weren'created for a reason then lets talk about how Floyd Mayweather would beat Anthony Joshua.

James Toney weighed almost 270 pounds in one of his last fights. So based off your idiotic logic he is bigger than Anthony Joshua, Wladimir Klistchko, and even fat George Foreman. Ted Lowry weighed as low as 163 which means he was much smaller than Maricano nartually.

Not only that Ted Lowry was a bum even for his own size. His career record was 70 wins 68 loses. Not only did he go the full 10 with Marciano everybody at ring side think Lowry won. Not only did he win he could of knocked out Marciano when ever he chosed too but looked like he held back.

But yeah a 163 pound fighter could beat Marciano but not a 6'3 215 pound Larry Holmes? Typical ******ed Marciano fan logic.

In his prime Marciano easily beats Lowry, how is a fight early in his career relevant. And yes, I think a 187 pound Marciano could beat a 211 pound Larry Holmes. It's more plausible than Holmes beating Joshua.

And yet many posters here want to convince people that Marciano gets over hyped on this forum.
Lmao. This post probably sounds like gospel to them.

People who have Marciano beating Lewis, Wlad, etc are almost certainly wrong however. These guys possess a combination of size and skill well beyond what Marciano ever saw along with tremendous power.

Actually he does get over hyped. But the same dumb Marciano fans who ironically look like Marciano over hype Jack Dempsey, Gene Tunney, and Harry Greb as well. Still believing 180 pound guys can still beat these modernize skilled heavweights. Marciano is just more over hyped than any boxer in the history of the sport combined.
