I wouldnt be astonished if Hopkins won a decision,as far as I'm concerned the jury is still out on Kovalev.

Only the Jones from 93 you can call a wide loss. (yes he lost to Dawson the second time, but it was by no way a wide win for Dawson)

That jones fight wasn't even that wide of a lose but given the way Hopkins fights with dirty tactics headbutting ,holding, slowing the fight down it very hard to win by a wide margin ,that doesn't mean he ever had a chance of winning

Carlos Molina is a good example of this alwYs in really close fights due to his negative style

I agree with this. While I do think Kovalev has looked impressive enough to be the favorite, he still hasn't gone over eight rounds in his career and is fighting a man who has never been stopped. Hopkins also Fights a spoilerish style, and is a master boxer who has made career of making power punchers (Trinidad, Pavlik) look foolish. This is no gimme win for Sergey.

I think he could be. Certainly hits as hard as anyone I've seen. And this is from someone that thinks very highly of the classic LHWs.

He will never have the opportunities to prove it against bigger oppnents like Moore, Charles, and Satterfield did. Fights between 175-180 lbers against 210 heavies just aren't permitted. But I trust me eyes, this guy hurts everyone he hits badly with both hands. He's dropped guys with arm punches, scored knockouts with jabs to the head and body, insane power in both hands.

Cleverly was a good opponent and is fighting at 198 comfortably right now.

Hopkins will do whatever it takes to avoid the knockout loss, he'll spoil and spoil and try to bait a DQ or injury stoppage.

well lets see who were the big punchers that Hopkins fought, everyone can punch but how many have 1 punch power, Trinidad was a puncher but not as a middleweight, Mercado was a puncher and had Hopkins down and hurt, Pavlick was a puncher but more of an attrition guy.

Will Kov impose his will and power then he needs to establish the jab, can Hopkins lure Kov into a trance and dance.....Kov can KO Hopkins but needs to go at him and cut off the ring and show power, he needs to be aggressively smart. Hopkins said he would never lose to white boy Calzage but I thought Joe won clearly with speed, Kov has to jab and show power and work the body

Very flash knockdowns as far as I remember, can't remember Hopkins wobbled there at all tbh.

How crazy it is to think that this fight was 20 years ago and the guy is still on top fighting without a beating to this day!?! I mean, 20, twenty, years ago, not 6 or 7!

Hopkins was hurt. One of the very few times he showed visible distress after a punch.

Kovalev has already shown he can track down and take out much faster fighters than Hopkins. Hopkins had a masterful performance vs Tito many years ago, but you're right Tito was a welterweight. Hopkins at time fought dirty with his trademark kidney shots when the ref is on the other side of the action, and to be honest Tito was a a bit of a one trick pony with his hook.

Yes, Calzaghe clearly beat Hopkins. But Kovalev is going to destory him.
