Could Sugar Ray Leonard be top 10 fighter of all time?

all he needs is a win over a complete fighter with speed & power, like Norris or Nunn. He dont have those

But he didnt just hold on to that, he then established himself as the top man, no other man could claim to be the Champion.

 

I would not have him in my top 10. Longevity is too important to me. A guy with 40 fights can't be one of the top 10 fighters ever p4p in my opinion, even though I think Leonard could be one of the top 5 ever on ability.

 

nobody even knew who lalonde was! The people I watched it with practically broke out in laughter as they watched Donny stride across the ring and after 10 seconds said "nope, he's not going to do it".

let's not try making Donny into something he wasnt in order to embellish Leonard's incredibly thin resume. :nono

There are no shortcuts to earning respectability and if he expects to get it then he should start with names like Pryor & Curry.

I hear things like "well, Leonard is not obligated to fight so and so"... which is as lame an excuse as they come when someone knows their man is not up to the challenge.

It's irritating the way some people are pushing to slip him into a top 10 and even flirting with top 5! I think it's more than generous giving him a top 50 ranking but please, let's not go overboard

 

Leonard has 4 wins: Benitez, Duran, Hearns, Hagler that are almost unmatched. He's easily top 20. I have him 12 or 13. Back to the ignore list rooster, your posts really aren't worth the time.

why should I be ignored? I dont hesitate to compare him with the competition. Let's take just 3 names I would consider your common top 20-Foster, Marciano, Monzon

Who should I put him in front of? Bob Foster? Foster has 14 defenses. Leonard has 4.

Monzon maybe? Carlos went unbeaten between 1964 - 1977. 14 defenses. Leonard's record, especially vs has-beens, simply pales. Feel like throwing out some names? Benvenuti 2X, Briscoe, Valdez 2X, Napoles

you have him ahead of Marciano? Marciano is 49-0. RL is 36-3-1 at best

as you can see, RL has a long way to go to even be considered for a top 10

 

LaLonde had one leg & one arm & they were both weight drained because of Leonards contract stipulations & he still managed to deck Leonard in this farcical excuse of a 2 title fight which was only made by Leonard so the ego tripping spitefull **** could out do Tommy Hearns & be 1st to 5 bogus title's........

Thank **** Hearns beat Kinchen 2 nights earlier to get there 1st.........Leonard/LaLonde was a circus event for celeb loving mug joyboy Michael Jackson fans & it's only Leonard/Non boxing fans who took this fight seriously....2 title's in 1 night & 1 just invented & the other held by a john doe titlist who had to boil down to the new Super/Middleweight limit.........**** OFF

 

Definitely. I dont have a top ten list myself but if i had, SRL would have to be in it. The guy had everything thats needed to be a great fighter, everything! He could have fought and held his own, in any era. How he gets derided by some on this forum is an absolute mystery to me as theres irrefutable evidence for all to see that this guy had it all. I just cant fathom how some people (not many)can sit at their computer and try to say otherwise

 

he's not being derided. The originator of this thread just asked us for our honest opinion. Not our fault he didnt do enough with his career. Being 36-3-1just isnt impressive enough
