It is very impressive given usually when you see low pro numbers you have high ams numbers. Russia, for example, sit at 450 by this list, if it was amateurs it'd be abouts 2000. Combined they have some where around 2,200 - 2,500 registered boxers Conversely Ukraine can double its fighters by including ams to get a grand total of an amazing 500-ish registered fighters. I didn't look anything up so I stuck to abouts and ishes, but if you pop over to boxrec and run these nations under ams a lot of make more sense, like Russia, but not Ukraine.
And Bohachuk is interim champ too. That's what you call a nation of people that can really fight. Without making any excuses.
What people don't seem to understand is. Boxing is a niche sport in every country. I'm from the UK, and I don't even know anybody who follows boxing. It's always been a solo interest to me. And with no boxing gyms nearby.
They have the 9th highest number of current pro boxers - sowhat are you talking about. And they also have one of the highest number of pro boxing shows. They have on average, a boxing show per week. Also there's many Indian boxers around the world of Indian descent in the Uk, Canada, Australia, etc. So there's really no excuses for their failures. 'unbelievable sporting culture' WTF. Again what are you talking about. You must have very low standards. Look at their Olympic Medal count - it's absolutely appallingly bad considering their population and how long they have competed at the Olympics. You have tiny European countries of just a few million that have only competed independently for about 30 years that have won far more medals than them. Football is their second most popular sport and look how atrocious they are at it. Couldn't be any worse. Cricket is their most popular, yet tiny populated in comparison Australia whoops them at the Cricket world cup. Well they may have 'passion' but they really couldn't be any worse when it comes to Sport.
Really? i'm from the UK too and know tons of people that follow it to some degree. Its a fairly mainstream sport here imo, i'd say top 5 easy. AJ and Fury are some of the biggest stars in the country. Even Whyte, Usyk and Del Boy are pretty well known to casuals.
Not a boxing nation.Give them 3300 like mexico there bound to be championz.Just not enough funding, interest or participation nation wide.More love cricket though.
Im not trying to say they are GOOD at sports , but they love their sports - my city regularly has street riots between passionate Indian fans and passionate Pakistani fans down to the cricket which is crazy, and with a population 30+x higher than the uk, i thought they would have more participation in combat sports is what im saying
You don't have to be a 'boxing nation' whatever that means. Almost all countries aren't boxing nations. It's an individual sport! And you don't need to have over 3000 current pro boxers either!! in a ****ing sport of 17 weight classes and 4 world champions per weight class! . Belarus only have 21 current boxers, yet they've had 3 world champions since becoming a independent nation for example. India have the 9th highest amount of boxers! Having the 9th highest number of pro boxers that's more than enough, and that's not including the many who are of Indian descent around the world in the UK, Canada, Australia etc.. So they are even higher if you include them. The funding excuse is bull**** too. Poverty always breeds success in Boxing! You do not need big funding for boxing! Joe Calzaghe trained in a shed. Look at Ukraine - they never could even fund a team for the last WSB series, whereas India could. Ukraine have very little funding, a war going on, the poorest country in europe, no pro boxing shows, almost all their fighters have to fight abroad, they get nothing given to them on a plate, a low number of pro boxers, far less than India - yet they consistently produce top boxers constantly, no excuses needed. Real fighters. And anyway India's national team in the amateurs send full teams to all the tournaments and qualifiers all around the world. Yet not one single Olympic Gold medal ever in boxing. Not one single World championship Gold medalist in mens boxing ever either. Vijender Singh is one of the most famous people in India, despite being a poor boxer. Indians are just not athletically good at sport. Not good at fighting. India underachieve in every sport going. Some people and some nations are good at some things, and some people some nations are not good at some things - it's as simple as that. Their 2nd most popular sport is football and look how hopelessly atrocious they are at it, for example, Doesn't even matter whether a sport is one of the most popular or not anyway, Because with a population of BILLIONS, you'd surely expect them to be able to churn out at least some world class boxers. But they are incapable. The many boxers there dedicate their lives to boxing, and never get to any decent level. I've seen many Indian boxers at a low level, they just aren't good enough. I thought you were Indian. But from your post history I found out you're a filipino who loves indians/India . Knew you'd have a connection in some way. Your excuses are nonsense.
Yeah. What it is, or seems to me is. Loads of casuals/football/general sports fans jump on board for for one or two big fights a year - like when Fury and Joshua are fighting. And that makes people assume it's popular. But these 'fans' only watch a few select fights a year. But If I mention Chris Billam-Smith, Nick Ball, Josh Taylor or Sunny Edwards to these 'fans' they don't have a clue who they are. Hardcore/knowledgeable boxing fans here who watch boxing every week, are very rare to come across from my experience.

Phiippines, Colombia, India, Venezuala, Tanzania are the biggest underachievers in Boxing right now I'd say it's either India or Tanzania as the worst nation in the world at boxing. (Considering how many boxers they both have)
Yeah I do agree with that. The people that watch every weekend arent numerous, but the bigger stuff (AJ, Fury or back in the day Hatton, Khan etc) definitely gets plenty of attention.
I know absolutely jack **** about boxing in India, but I wager they need a system like in Japan. Britain is in a similar boat and they produce a lot of world level talent. You want the best of your country to regularly face the best in your country. This is how talent is brewed.
I don’t love india. I heart india! Good points.then no excuses? I agree with you.Historically India hasn’t produced fighters of world level.Since the british introduced the sport to them. They chose cricket over punching each others heads off. If they was colonized by Spanian conquestadors. Most boxing nations of Spanish subjects produce boxers puerto rico, mexico, and panama.”Machismo culture” .But as a colony of briton not many although in recent years there have been boxers in Australia and NZ holding the flag high vast improvement.I am not saying its the british fault. But lets get back to India. How they can win in sports. It will be some time. Briton, America and Mexico are boxing nation. They have ppv boxing in sell out venues .Let’s just say there is love for boxing. It might not be on the same level as succker. I agree with Eastern block fighters historically been on top of boxing. Not surprising. The best from Europe come from there more than briton.GGG, Bivol, usyk, loma and might be the harsh environment.USSR!
