Nigeria gave us Ike Ibeabuchi but has there ever been a professional heavyweight champ from that part of the world? Am I missing someone? Ahh, Sam Peter was a WBC champ. Can you believe Peter was a champ and Ibeabuchi wasn't?!

    Other Notables:

    Henry Akinwande
    Dunkin Dokiwari
    Mountain Kilimanjaro

I'm probably missing some other notables.

Ghana made a big dent in boxing, but not at heavyweight.

I think you meant immigrants benefit from Great Britain. They wouldn't get the opportunity in their third world countries.

Yes, I implied contenders who already challenged but came up short to win their country's first heavyweight title (and other contenders from the same country who failed as well). Sorry if I wasn't specific enough though.

Wexford's Jem Roche took Tommy Burns into the second minute. Contemporary reports say Jem was ahead on points when he got knocked out !

Ireland has won the heavyweight crown. The Irish seemed to benefit a lot from migrating with John L Sullivan, Jim Corbett, Frank Paddy Slavin, Bob Fitzsimmons, Jack Dempsey, Gene Tunney, Jim Braddock and Tyson Fury even a small claim on Ali, but we did have two heavyweight champions born in Ireland since queenbury rules Peter Maher and Tom Sharkey. Also George Gardner claimed it after Jim Jeffries retired but lost any claim soon after. We have been dried up lately since all the big lads left to work abroad :) and the rural areas that produced a lot of big lads are much more wealthy now, plus boxing died out as a family tradition to settle arguements a long time ago, the poor city areas of Belfast and Dublin like where I'm from produce very few big boxers but the last generation is the first to have an abundance of food in poor areas so maybe in the future as the youngfella's are getting bigger now.
