Gerendal,im sorry to hear that,it mus be frustrating.so will he still be fighting on te undercard or Ricky then?hope it works it out for him
Thanks for keeping us updated Grendal. So will Craig now be fighting on the Telefutura card the night before Malignaggi-Hatton then?
THATS MY UNDERSTANDING , DUNKY. Craig is still not sure if its been finalised yet but he`s training for a bout that weekend. Not sure of the weight of course as up till now he`s been working towards about 156 but Stovall is heavier. Not the best preparation but Craig has an "I`ll fight anyone "attitude. Latest news is that Jamie Moore (the Irish one) is preparing for his next bout at the Wildcard so that will be more good sparring for Craig. Craig still remembers "loosing" by a point to Jamie in the Four Nations as amateurs after the judges deducted a 2 point penalty TWICE from Craig in the last round in the final. Never seen the boy so mad!!! He has been running with Manny and Amir in the Hollywood Hills every morning and was a bit hurt when a camera crew asked him to step out the shot so that they could film just the two mega stars! Never mind. Someday......
:-(( it looks as if tonights fight is off http://garyreilly.blogspot.com/2008/11/craig-mcewan-suffers-late-call-off.html
Why did he not just fight the guy cant have been that much over if it got cancelled this late in the day.
"Latest news is that Jamie Moore (the Irish one) is preparing for his next bout at the Wildcard so that will be more good sparring for Craig" I certainly would love to be there, yep its only sparring etc......yo, i'd pay,lot more to it. Enjoying hearing that he is feeling undermined with Khan arriving etc ( He wil shine even more and Khan is a great talent ) Never seen these updates, appreciated :good Hairy :bbb
I thought he was, regarding the fight that just fell apart. He is always on the promotions/undercard. This was what seemed a big step up fight here, certainly thought it would of been on this card. Is it a "TBA" now ? cheers Hairy :bbb
ive dropped my person a line on that,i hope smething can be worked out...even if it si just an eight rounder...
Spoke to Craig today and he is really disappointed. A couple of hours before the weigh-in he checked his weight in the weigh-in room and he was 158.8. He wanted to weigh-in at less than his last fight so he went down to the sauna where whom should he find but Ivan Stovall already there. as soon as he saw Ivan he realised that there was no way he was 158 plus or minus 1 which was the arrangement.Craig`s manager asked Ivan to go up to weigh himself and he tipped 165! Craig wanted to take the fight anyway and when Freddy Roach was contacted he agreed with Stovall`s team that they would take it if Stovall could get down to 163. Ivan went off to try but couldn`t get below 165. Craig still wanted it but Freddy and Billy Keane, his manager, said no. Craig has been assured that they will try to get another fight in the next fortnight but he is not optimistic. He was back in the gym yesterday and is going to keep training till he is told there will be no bout, but I can tell he is really demoralised. I know , however , that the lads at the Wildcard will keep his spirits up and Craig is not the type who will be down for long. Look out for a explosive come back!
Great post cheers, the "He was back in the gym yesterday and is going to keep training"....wheres Moore. LOL I bet right now he is on fire, as many would be.......surprised at the 'ready in a fortnight" etc........i guess, sweat out then break down, weight wise...........must be frustrating though. Never seen the Moore stuff, tbh, i never seen him angry, up close or on telly lol Hairy :deal
Tehriley, Craig is from Wester Hailes but now lives in Hollywood and boxes out of the Wildcard Gym there, trained by Freddy Roach. He is promoted by Goldenboy and I think he was the first British boxer on their books. The story of how he ended up there is fairy tale stuff. When Craig was an amateur he got a grant through SportScotland and was asked what single thing would best further his amateur carreer. Craig had long been admirer of Freddy and he told SportScotland that a visit to the Wildcard would be his choice. To his amazement they said " go for it" so a few weeks later he, and his then girlfriend Sally ( now Mrs. McEwan) pitched up in Hollywood. Craig went along to the Wildcard, resolved to work hard and just learn from what was going on around him. After a few days he got a chance to spar. I forget who it was with but it was someone pretty good. Sally told me afterwards that after a few minutes all the boxers in the gym slowly stopped what they were doing to watch what was going on in the ring. Craig was sparring well, Sally says, though he was, no doubt, a bit loose and "novicey" though Sally could see that everyone was really impressed. After it was finished Freddy came over and spoke to him and couldn`t believe he was an amateur from Scotland. After less than 60 seconds speaking to Freddy, the great man told him " if you ever want to turn pro, please speak to me before you talk to anyone else". Three years later, Craig is 12-0-0 and is one of the Wildcard fixtures, on nodding terms with the likes of Pacquiao,Dela Hoya, Hopkins and Mayweather I was in LA for his last fight , at the Home Depot Centre, and after the show we were in one of these big freight elevators going up to the exit. Just as the doors closed, who should nip in but Antonio Margarito. There were about 50 people in the lift, all big boxing fans and you could see them all thinking " ****! Look who I`m sharing an elevator with!!" Next thing Margarito looks up and says, "Hey Craig, Buenos tardis. Great fight tonight man!"(Craig had sparred with Margarito in 2007) Craig of course plays Mr Cool! "hey Toni" as if this sort of thing was an every day occurance. Which, actually, it just about is now! By the way, I see you`re a Paul Appleby fan. I knew Paul and his brother David when they were amateurs. Both great boxers and great lads.I hope Paul goes all the way. A spell at the Wildcard would benefit him too, though.
