there was an interview on youtube a couple of weeks ago before fighting purdy, and he was stating that he felt he was fighting below his level, citing he felt he was more then a domestic level fighter, do u think he'll retire, hes been knocked out by 2 non punchers, he originally had aspirations to possibly fighting for a world title, he was coming off 1 of the best wins of his career. allot of ppl in england rated him after beating odonnel. i think he's a pretty ok fighter, but his chin is pretty awful i mean its possibly as bad as khans when he was fighing back at lightweight. (Odonnell also stunned him pretty bad as well) what now for him ?
Wouldn't be shocked he wasn't really putting great deal in his shots and didn't look great but lets not take away from a beautiful 1 2 that landed on him from Purdy. The boy did his job....Craig has to go back to drawing board.
Craig was comfortably winning every round for me. I think it might have just been a bit of a Rahman/McCall moment. Like you say though, take nothing away from Purdy, he stuck to his guns and it was a cracking finish.
Yeah i agree but i dunno he never really gained respect with his shots. He was looking classy but you sensed bit by bit the fight was getting tougher for him. I was looking for him to really sit on a few to say ''you can come forward but not without taking some real hammer!''. It really reminded me of Cotto-Margo in terms of one guy winning rounds looking nice and skillful then it falling apart but in this case very quickly.
When you are fighting off the back foot and picking shots at some stage you need to take the centre of the ring behind a hard jab and sit on your shots more to show your opponenent you can hurt him, if you don't then he is going to keep pushing you back and force you to keep moving, setting you up for the right hand as Purdy did.
I don't think so, Watson has had some hard times and knows what it is like to lose a Title, just got his tactics wrong, even if he was in front, fighting on the back foot all the time can make it a long evening, the crazy thing is that he maybe the bigger puncher of the two.
