Well, he is currently a titlist (and not merely a titlist but the consensus #1) a division below, whereas Matthysse at present only holds a Silver belt at 140lbs.

I'm okay with calling the #1 lightweight in the world and universally recognized 135lb champ a priority over a light welterweight Silver champ. :conf

(and I'm the biggest Matthysse fan you'll find)

 

first off Crawford deserves it by beating 3 great competition in a row. Luke, who's one of my favorite boxers right now, fought some guy name robert ortiz and john molina.

There's a reason Crawford is a very close 2nd place in the Fighter of the Year poll (and some publications have actually given him that honor for 2014) while Matthysse wasn't even nominated.

 

I guess I just don't like the idea of someone from a lower weight class moving up and "cutting in line".
