Patterson was down from guys like roy harris and Tom mcneely, plus put on the deck from a guy having his first pro fight!
This content is protected Mac and Mormeck not world class? They were both in the top5, in fact Mac was the #2 or #1, how is that not world class? Haye's speed and reflexes are fantastic. No, they are not on Floyd's level, but if you go by that reasoning, Floyd is unbeatable because virtually no boxer has his speed. Yet he was very beatable and knocked down by nobodies all over. Liston was one of the slowest heavyweights you can think of, but he knocked Patterson into another world in a single round....... twice. Haye is not as good as Liston, but he's a lot faster and surely hits very hard. You do realise that all but one (against Abdoul, a guy who has never been stopped before or after) of his fights ended by knockout? Even Liston went the distance with some guys like Whitehurst.. Haye hits like a truck. And Floyd has one of the weakest chins of all heavyweight champions.
Floyd knocks out Haye. Too much speed/power/skills for Haye. Haye would have an extreme tough time with the Peek A boo.
[yt]NidI5aHpQr0[/yt] Patterson vs Johansson 2 Floyd weighed 190lbs for this which is what the thread starter said his weight would be in this fantasy match up. This is probably his best perfromace as well.
This content is protected Liston was reliant on other aspects like...... power? Haye hits extremely hard too. Whether Haye could stand up to that shot or not? Maybe, maybe not. Who knows. All i know is that Floyd comes right at you, does not have big one punch power nor early KO's, no KO's against any decent guy over 200 pounds and Haye hits like a truck. And you say "By the time Floyd was fighting bigger guys he was less aggressive". Well, i didn't see much of that against Liston.
Hardly, I dont feel this peak a boo defence is unreakable. I mean even when Patterson wasnt getting knocked out, even when he was winning, against mediocre opostition how many times do he hit the floor?! I dont know that the record is for the amount of times a heavyweight champion is floored, but Floyd Patterson surely must be up there! Haye TKO Patterson.
I am verry excited about Hayes career but I would advise you to watch his next few fights before definitely picking him over all time greats. I do think that Mormeck would have been a top heavyweight in Pattersons era and possibly Macrinelli also.
Haye lost to Carl Thompson, beat an old and past it Mormeck and beat an overrated Maccarinelli. He is the undisputed Cruiserweight champ but he will not withstand the skillset and power of Floyd Patterson. Haye has never fought so fast and skilled as Patterson and will be KO'd by the middle rounds. They both have shaky chins but with Haye's horrible defense he will be picked apart.
This content is protected Comparable power? No way. As we've concluded already, Floyd has never even stopped a decent 200+lbs heavyweight. Haye has (they all enter the ring 210+lbs). Haye stopped guys using only one or two punches. Patterson needed to beat them down. Outside of the Johansson rematch, how many early knockouts did Patterson score? And while his defence was good, he still got tagged a lot. You're not going to tell me that someone who goes down something like 20 times during his career has great defence?
