Looks like Makhmudov is going ahead in El Paso on April 23.

Personally, with the Covid situation and his potential to be in at least one very big money fight in his career, I wouldn't be making the trip from Canada. But maybe he's in the southern U.S. already?

Balogun stopped Keith Barr in Round 2. Not an enormous accomplishment, I suppose, but a decent way to take care of business.

Johnnie Langston also fought Demetrius Banks (who has never shined - but did Craig Lewis's zero a handful of years back) in a CW contest on the card. It ended in a "no contest" in an ugly fashion.

Nick Asberry's brief comeback came to an unsatisfactory conclusion. He drops a SD to a then-14-9-1 Mexican journeyman - some 7 inches shorter than himself (albeit considerably more active in the recent past). I expect that his story ends here...

Although it seems that Nick is fond of telling stories to anybody who will listen....

I think the fight has a pretty good chance of going ahead. There are very few state-wide prohibitions for COVID in Texas right now. There are a few cities that have imposed stricter ones, but I don't think El Paso is one of them.

We're seeing COVID surges in a number of spots in the USA right now. Prior surges have been later to arrive in the southern part of the USA, though.

    The Balogun vs Barr fight.

254 lbs (!) is not a good look for Balogun - but he gets the job done here.

Yep. If he wins, it's a win on his record and maybe a KO for Youtube ... but the risk/reward doesn't seem to make sense. Mak. rolling the dice on picking up Covid accidentally and it having a career long impact possibly doesn't seem worth the win against very modest opposition on his record and a DAZN broadcast. Maybe I'm just paranoid but I'm in Korea and I wouldn't even travel to Busan the south of the country, net alone Japan/China, unless it was absolutely essential even with our more modest Covid situation.

BTW ... I like your posts. Are you U.S. based?

6'5'' Apti Davtaev (previously 20-0-1, 19 KOs) was stopped by unheralded journeyman Jack Mulowai in the eight round.

I think Makhmudov will get stopped as well when he steps up - he is overrated (although his power is real).

It's occurred to me that other promoters might be paying GoldenBoy to sit on Makhmudov to protect their own fighters.

Hopefully Makhmudov gets some sort of stipend from GB to sit around. If you can't make money by fighting other boxers, you only have the option of making money by not fighting other boxers.

Sonny Bill Williams has concluded his rugby-playing career and plans to give boxing another try.

He was always going to be a bit small to figure in the HW discussion - and he's coming back at least five years too late to be a real factor. But I think he'd be OK at Bridgerweight for a bit. You could certainly sell fights with him vs. a Larena or a Hemi Ahio.
