He's fought nobody of note yet and I suspect he may never get to a level to be relevant. Hamer was having no problem tagging him prior to quitting, being so big and stationary will see him always be an easy target.

While he has clear hand speed and power I'm amazed by those who think he'll amount to much because there is no way he'll ever be taken seriously if he doesn't show some kind of discipline. Look at Arreola and Solis being pre diabetic isn't a attribute of a top heavyweight.

 

Good points, but unlike Arreola and Solis, and to an extent, Welliver, Ruiz Jr had been showing the discipline to lose weight getting down into the low 250s.

Still 10-15 lbs N of where he should be for his body type, but at least something positive, and still mopping C level opposition similar to Wilder.

HBO execs urged him to drop weight, and I believe Abel Snachez offered his services in Big Bear. Don't know why that didnt materialize, but if it does, he could get back into the 230s and make a real run. He's still just a kid in terms of age in the HW game.:think

 

He got his weight down to the 250's for a while and never got any lower and he was coming down from 300lbs which is huge, even Arreola and Solis have never allowed themselves to get that big.

Ruiz Jr also showed up at 272lbs this weekend so he clearly has even worse discipline than Arreola. Arreola at least had the discipline to get himself down to 230-240lbs which is still overweight while Ruiz Jr is not just overweight but actually obese.

I have serious doubts that Ruiz Jr can drop down to the 230's he hasn't shown even the same desire as Arreola. Though he is clearly more skilled than Arreola but talent isn't enough, he needs to rededicate himself and get himself in half decent shape because currently he is showing up in disgraceful shape.
