i think its great, got a lot of british talent coming through pushing for honours and two good heavyweight prospects, and some great ams, couldnt be better
Talentwise..... Probably the best shapes it's ever been in. A few world class level fighters with a whole bunch of talented youngsters... And to top it off you got Khan at 24 who could become one of Britains greatest!
its very good and the success of the current crop of amateurs in recent years means there is some good talent still to come.
is there a golden era approaching? and what was the previous golden era? Howcome Khan and Froch dnt get the same hype as Hatton and Haye did
I feel khan will be a top 5 p4p star from next year untl he retires. He should arguable be in top 10 already instead of Bradley.
I think things are looking great in terms of the ability of the fighters that are being produced, but bad in terms of the exposure boxing gets nowadays...
It's in a transitional period. We have Khan who is going to be around a bit longer, Froch who is a good world champion. Burns has surpassed everyone's expectations and is looking towards a belt at LW. But I feel we're just recovering from the Hatton/Calzaghe phase. In a few years we'll have a strong crop, multiple world champions. Khan is going to be the Hatton and someone will rise to be the Calzaghe. But more importantly we have a whole host of other fighters who can make their mark on the world scene.
in my limited experience i think it's the best it's been for a while. the icing on the cake would be to get channel 5 even more interested and in aperfect world bbc or itv to show a bit of imagination and start showing 1 or 2 fights.
Khan will never be the new hatton. Hatton got the football fans invovled because of his average pub guy persona, Khan doesnt appeal to that demographic. Talentwise think were going to see alot of brits fighting at the top level over the next couple years. Degale and groves are looking very good and when they are ready there are plenty of quality fights in the smw division.
Domestically, it is very good. All we are seeing are traditional titles on the line. Franks era of WBU titles really went a long way to killing our beloved sport. As long as its an Area title, country title, national title and commonwealth then we will see good champs, good mandatories, promotions co-operating etc The trouble begins on the world stage where without a monopoly (via commission, org or promotion), the sport will never be where we want it to be. Talent wise we are well placed - Khan, Cleverly, Burns, Froch etc are legit. DeGale, Groves, Quigg, Frampton etc are works in progress. British boxing is the best in the world. If every nation followed our progress then each countries fighters would be legitmised and tested prior to hitting the world stage. As it is, we will still have hype jobs, fighters exposed etc
Khan is to become the new Hatton as I can't see anyone becoming a superstar like he will. Regardless if he brings 30k fans or not, he's going to be the poster boy for British boxing.
