Yeah, silver at the junior world's is a good result but there is a huge difference between that and the seniors.
He is in Singapore for youth olympics will have a contact when he returns sorry no contact over there
I've got the fight at Reggio Calabria early in the year but its hardly worth watching. kid who fought him ran and sat on the ropes in the first round. hoopers corner adjusted him in the break and hooper ko'd local kid early in the second. i'm getting some footage of oz team training in cuba. i'll try to post.
Will keep an eye out for boxing, and particularly Damien, on GO's coverage. Here's a little bit more info. He competes this Saturday 21st: http://singapore2010.olympics.com.au/athlete/damien-hooper (favourite food McDonalds is a worry)
Sorry fellows, he's on a collision course with our boy Joe Ward. http://www.rte.ie/sport/boxing/2010/0503/wardj.html Ward is Ireland's No#1 prospect and a two-weight world champion. They meet again in Singapore and good luck to Hooper. But Ward is the business
Bring on the Paddy. Hooper is a smart guy full of confidence. I'll back him in. Want an avatar bet? By the way, have you heard of a compatriot named Declan Trainer? Had his first pro fight over here about 6 weeks back and smashed up a well regarded Aussie in his first outing to. Declan looked the business, keep an eye on him.
I'll take that bet! What are ya thinking Joe's a confident lad, only 16 too so was younger than most of his opponents at the World Youths. If Hooper's not short of confidence, here's what Ward had to say recently in the Irish Sun: "I beat the Australian boxer Denis Hooper 6-1 in the World Youth final and he'll be in Singapore. To tell you the truth the occasion got to me a bit in that final and I didn't box to my full potential. "If I meet him again I'll destroy him. I'm confident that I will win gold in Singapore." I caught that fight between Trainor and Bogovic. Fair play to both lads for taking the rematch, it won't be easy for either. Bog got caught early and never got the chance to show his pedigree, I guess he'll be more cautious next time.

yeah ward won that other fight easily but Hooper had beaten the tournament favourite in the semi final and then i think hit a bit of a flat spot. we'll see. and as you say Ward is one of the younger fighters there and is clearly the business. that said we're expecting Hooper to medal at the Comm games this junior tourneys are like a warm up.
