With the exception of the Mosley fight, I've always known Cotto would be too much for his opponents. He has a long list of B fihghters and I was surprised when Arum put him against Mosley. With Gomez, Cotto has fought much more wrthy opponents. I was shocked to see so called boxing fanatics shocked Cotto won so easily.
atsch of course he looked good against him, gomez is nowhere near his league :-( a live underdog:rofl the persons who say that are out of their mind. This was a mismatch and everybody with a little insight views knew this from the start:yep
Gomez beats Journeyman Arturo Gatti and all of a sudden he's supposed to be a threat to the likes of Cotto?:rofl :rofl :rofl atsch I like Cotto, but please lets not go overboard and consider the opponent in rating his performance! As far as I'm concerned, yes he was impressive, but he did'nt do anything beyond what I thought he was capable of against the likes of Gomez. For example, the likes of Margarito would have just steam rolled right through poor Gomez!
Cotto does seem to get better each fight the quickness and ring smarts in the Mosley fight was a thing to behold.
To be fair, part of it did indeed have to do with the guy he was fighting. But, regardless you can still see the improvements.
Of course he was going to look good, what did you expect? Look at his opponent, everyone knew that Gomez didn't even belong there but still defended this joke of a "fight".
Gomez is average, that is the main reason cotto looked so good. the main was only there because he was famous, not that anybody thought he had a chance. This fight reminded me a lot of Mayweather - Gatti in the respect. Cotto done a professional job on him and fair enough, he deserved a gimme, but lets see a fight with someone better next time, bring on Margarito!
Coming into this fight, people were saying Gomez could pose a threat because he has taken punches from middle and super middlweights.. even though gomez was no match for cotto, cotto still showed that he's powerful.. especially that jab
Dog, I honestly didn't even know who Gomez was, nor did I care about him. I didn't even see him fight Gatti, I only saw highlights and saw NOTHING extraordinary about him. I actually thought he was a B level Colombian fighter or something.
Many would have you believe that this fight is equivelant to Cotto beating Ali by the way some are parading this win.
