Do you know how stupid that sounds? If you're going to respond it least try and show a little intelligence. Let's see what you've missed.

    1. The other organizations are unionized and

    2. They can play for different teams and often pit one team against the next to try and obtain top $$.

    3. They also can set prices on their events without the public having alternative completing organizations to watch and a lower price.

    These are major differences.

For this to be the only game in town is not good for the fighters or the sport itself.

maybe you should read the rest of the comments on the thread and learn. Better yet, ever consider taking an economics course or two ..

But then again I received my degree more than 20 years ago and look who I'm discussing economics with.. :patsch

Basically monopolies are bad because they allow the owners to set prices without competition..is that too hard a concept to grasp?

And on the flip side, they allow owners to pay less than would be the case to their talent because the talent has no where else to go..again is that concept beyond you?

The UFC is not technically a monopoly but it wields the power of one.

I think if the UFC got rid of a abrasive guy like Dana white or at least limited his exposer as the face of the UFC and by extension now, MMA I think they would have more succsess in keeping more talent from leaving strikeforce after their contracts run out.

Basically Zuffa owns most of the MMA elite right now, Dana white my be the biggest obstacle in the way of keeping many of them. This it exacaly how they can loose the chokehold they have on MMA right now.

The UFC is a monopoly. There's no point in arguing the pure semantics of the definition as that is precisely the strangle hold it has on the sport.

Very true Yaca. But I think 1st and foremost the deals regarding sponsors, image rights, exclusivity ect are the major stumbling block to signing these guy. But Dana is very good at burning the bridges with his various '**** em, they arent any good and we didnt want them anyway' type statement in the press

His attitude is undeniably a problems for most of these guys, but it's not the main cause imo. It would just be a velvet glove on the same iron fist if they had a more affable guy like Scott Coker as the face of Zuffa offering exactly the same deals. That wont change with White gone

Fair play to him i watched an interview months before this deal was made and Barnett wouldn't respond to Dana and made a poor job really of denying Dana's accusation or even offering some form of explanation.
Barnett's either trying to cash out or learning to play the game late in his career as he knows his choices are limited.
Either way i don't see Dana reneging on his stance as he simply doesn't need Barnett. Once his contract is done there's nothing to stop him from canning him. Barnett has no leverage to speak of.

I cant really blame Josh. He's in the twilight of his career and probably doesnt want to end up as some Randy the Ram type. I think if he's still got a few wins left in him maybe he has a future with Zuffa

TBH i cant say this makes strikeforce look any good when their champ is opting to leave for another org , You'll never see a ufc title holder doing the same. why i think he just stirring up the pot. I dunno about his reasons for leaving ufc in the late 90s, it was pretty much go as you plz as far as im concern.

you're kinda contradicting yourself there. If he is leaving for money why go to Japan when he's already caught the north American market? I cant name one MW over there , can you?

Henderson left the UFC the first time for PRIDE because they were offering more money.
He left the UFC the second time because of dispute over his brand Clinch Gear and salary as he believed he should be paid more.
Now IF DREAM is still around ( and thats a big IF ) and IF fighters defect to Japan ( again another HUGE IF ) then Henderson may consider that as he's clearly trying to maximise his earning potential in the twilight of his career. If the UFC wasn't willing to bow to his demands the last time why would they bow to them this time when they now own SF?
Naturally of course as iv already iterated this is entirely dependant on DREAM still existing which in my opinion is highly unlikely.
Even if DREAM doesn't exist Bellator or M-1 "may" be an option but that's only if they can guarantee the revenue, beat a UFC offer and also have TV rights. Right now this is of course all supposition which im sure you're aware of. So contradiction? No not in the slightest.

I wasnt in the know obviously of the recent purchase of strikeforce(yeah i didnt read the article). As far as i'm concern this changes everything. But yeah , i still dont see him getting any action over there . The only fighters opting to go over there would be hws like Reem(maybe) fedor and Barnett, heck even big foot silva seems contempt on getting a fight with Lesnar, as far as im concern anyone who's not fighting for zuffa is getting left behind on the field trip.

Again any mw outside ufc even existent?
