He is not a horrible journalist just an opinionated one and he is the best in the business at what he does. His job is to deliver boxing news and gossip and he does it very accurately and well before the rest. He is a newshound and not an analyst. He is a total tosser but his slating of bob arum and the many rants at the boxing organizations is spot on.
Rafael's problem is one of bias and allowing his personal feelings to seep into his writing. But I think he's a decent journalist in general - he has good instincts and he does call promoters and HBO when they make terrible fights. It's just when he decides he doesn't like a fighter he becomes unbearable.
u might not like him but you have to admire him for this On my 2011 wishes just added more respect by US press to all sanctioning bodies. Dan we also understand and love boxing. Also respect you. GilberticoWBA @GilberticoWBA You want respect? How about one champion per division instead of two or three? @danrafaelespn Suddenly everybody has an answer and a solution for boxing. I respect it. No problem. Boxing has more issues to be solve @GilberticoWBA 3 champs in one division hurts boxing, especially with 4 organizations. How does that make sense? YOU are killing #boxing. @danrafaelespn This sport is wolrdwide not only for a small group or aren“t you worried about a fair-fight game?
He's very close to K2 - which has resulted in some of his more obnoxious articles where he parrots their party line. But he has great contacts, no doubt. Can't remember which paper he used to work for, but he's got some knowledge of the industry.
Respect for that WBA thing But here's where he shows his bias... Until then, it was a good piece detailing why Haye/Wlad isn't happening and then at the end goes out of his way to portray Haye as a ducker atsch
I cannot believe the bias and hypocrisy of this guy incredible. He Retweeted this today
Wlad and Manny should just fight each other, and let Haye and Mayweather negotiate.
and look at this comment from him sat the end on his article on the fight not happening. Come on that injury has been clearly proven to be a fake yet he lets Wladimir off the hook but lays into Haye, at least Haye had a legitimate reason for pulling out which he happens to never mention, why did Wladimir pull out of the Chisora fight? What was his motivation? Also I take shame in admitting this but when I submit my questions to him (I know I feel bad but he is a good source)for his chats he never answers any of them when I say something that goes against his opinion and I back it up with facts. I have also noticed that it isn't just me that he does that to, on twitter I see that a lot of people send him questions and points of views that he never responds to when he disagrees but he has no problem when someone is hanging off his nuts. He can be decent at times and he is consistently the best for breaking news but a lot of time his articles can be unobjective and biased.
I've done the same on his Q and A, asked the same question saying something like Hey Dan you're the best! and he answers straight away.
Lol seriously, I think I might give it a try next time he has one of his chats. My god that guy really does have an ego and a half. I like some of his work but how he can claim to be objective is beyond me because he clearly isn't.
