The good: One of the best heavyweight punchers Great jab Fast feet Fearless (fights everyone) The bad: Doesn’t have great defense (relies too much on his foot speed) Quit against Usyk Average chin Like I said in a previous thread, Dubois is the most undervalued heavyweight, skill-wise, on this website, partly due to the “quitter” label. He quit against Joe Joyce because of a detached retina. That’s like calling Vitali a coward for retiring against Byrd due to a shoulder injury. In the Lerena fight, Dubois clearly had something wrong with his legs (only got knocked down once from actual punches). The only fights where he truly quit were the two against Usyk, where he found absolutely zero success (which still isn’t an excuse). In my opinion, Dubois beats everyone else in the division except Usyk, Kabyel, Zhang (50/50), and Hrgovic (if they took the rematch).
Certainly has no hesitation in taking the big fights Usyk twice Miller Joyce Hrgovic Joshua Norman Facing Wardley next Consider he has only had 25 fights
I think his team is full of idiots Dubois clearly has a weakness to southpaws. Both Fury and Joshua managed to win 3-4 rounds vs Usyk in both fights. Dubois could not win a single round vs Usyk legitimately. His jab doesn’t work vs a good southpaw. This is where a good team would adjust and tell him to properly use his left hook to the body and head and also lead with the right hand. Dubois team convinced him that he won the first fight. Even if this was a legit body shot (it wasn’t), he lost every other round. Surely his team should have recognized that and tried to get him to use the lead right hand and lead left hooks. Dubois barely attempted any left hooks vs Usyk in fight 2 despite Usyk moving to his right in the direction of the left hook. He hardly tried uppercuts or lead right hands either. He simply tried to set up his right hand the usual way with the jab and that was never going to work when your jab itself isn’t working. his team did him a disservice by convincing him he won the first Usyk fight instead of using it as a learning experience. his team should have also put him in with at least one southpaw leading into the second Usyk fight just so he could gain more experience vs lefties. But they didn’t. Poor. I am also not sure of him beating most guys. Yes, he could. He has fairly quick hands, a massive right and a ram rod of a jab. But he lacks punching variety and his attack is too predictable. Eventually someone other than Usyk was going to figure him out. he deserves immense credit for fighting everyone and anyone but his team is incompetent beyond words.
Dubois’ team is full of idiots. However, I disagree that his jab doesn’t work against southpaws. I just think Usyk is a stylistic nightmare (because of Usyk's speed, which neutralizes Dubois' defense) for Dubois, and he shouldn’t fight him again.
He lost half of those fights and fouled his way past Hrgovic, yet he's had three title shots (I count the AJ bout) and is about to walk into a fourth. Then you've got guys like Kabayel who don't even get one.
No doubt. Dubois is packing glass: https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/daniel-dubois-has-a-glass-jaw.696063/ His chin isn't "average," it's pure china. Wardley's gonna lay him OUT COLD, and early too!!
His chin isn't the best. But I think his confidence will have taken a hit as well. Some glass cannons can get by if the self belief and mental toughness is still there. Wardley on the other hand appears to be improving fight by fight and his confidence will be sky high. Some fights are decided by momentum above all else. But yes Dubois certainly has the weaker chin of the two.
Parker came in overweight and fought with the wrong game plan, and Wardley was still behind on the scorecards before the BS stoppage. Wardley hasn’t convincingly won against a top ten opponent.
I think rating Dubois's jab as great is an overstatement. When I think of notable Heavyweights with great jabs I think of. Larry Holmes Lennox Lewis Wladimir Klitschko Sonny Liston Pinklon Thomas Good jab yes but great ? Certainly not in my view.
