Funny, where were all you guys when Inoue broke his orbital bone AND NOSE in the same fight months ago and still went on to win?

Where were all the "why did he fight on he could go blind" threads then?

Don't worry, he's fine, too. Already defended his title again. Also, NOT blind.

Neither is Dubois ... so all the "what if" he went blind nonsense can stop.

 

I think Inoue could be compromised from now on, I heard many express such concerns. Broken orbitals are nothing to mess with. Also the stakes were incredibly high in that fight and I said I make exceptions for those cases.
I'm not even a Dubois fan, just don't want people slating someone for deciding that risking blindness wasn't worth it.

 

The thing is, Dubois didn't really mention eye pain or concern about blindness as a reason for quitting after the fight. He seemed to concede he was out of gas (but it look more mental than anything).
And his corner were scared of him quitting really early on, a while before the eye even looked like it was properly swelling.

Physically I thought Dubois was in the fight almost all the way. He was in it, on strong steady legs. There were no 10-8 rounds and the fight was about even at the end. Joyce was maybe a point ahead, i thought.

 

Correct. The "he could go blind" hysteria ramped up to about a thousand out of the gate.

I literally couldn't count the number of fights I've seen at all levels where someone's eye was swollen shut. I can't recall any frenzy like this almost immediately afterward.

Seemed way over the top from the get go.

 

I think Frank Warren and all the Dubois fanboys scrambled around in a damage limitation exercise. His reputation was in tatters when he upped and quit. He didn't offer much explanation at first. Yeah, the eye was quite bad but yeah we've all seen worse. And he really hadn't taken a massive beating. I feel he was more worried about 12 rounds and the coolness of the big man in front of him than the eye really. He had a mental struggle and his own corner seem to know it from very early on.

Also, people are acting now like he was a kid being thrown to the wolves but he was BRITISH CHAMPION, defending the Lonsdale belt, and most people had him favourite to win it !

 

I'm not a Dubois fan never have been and yes of course he quit but I have no criticism, fractured bones vary in severity but it sounds like unless his eyeball was on the floor you think he should have carried on. He's still a young lad and maybe a final judgement is a little premature.
