Strange performance from Dubois, it looked like he was desperate not to have another ‘Johnson’ type fight on his record. Let’s not forget that Lartey was an unbeaten 14-0, 6’5” heavyweight so on paper at least this was a step up

What was learned, well he’s developing a decent jab and seemed intent on working off the back of it including a basic but effective 1-2. He needs to develop a bigger repertoire of combinations.
He can take a clean shot, got hit a few times by power shots and never looked buzzed, as in brains scrambled.
He has a good engine, most heavies need a round off or punch themselves out after such frenzied exchanges but Dubois never looked even slightly gassed.

On a more negative side, he needs to develop some ring craft, setting traps, drawing his opponent forward etc. I thought there were some signs of this but it’s token and unrefined at the moment.
His defence is too open especially his left hand.
He obviously got dragged into a toe to toe too easily and needs to learn some discipline around sticking to pre fight tactics and game plan.

All that said, he’s a baby at just 21 years old, he’s had no amateur fights to speak of so he’s learning the game as a professional which is a much harder curve.
He’s only fought 33 rounds but crucially many of those rounds weren’t competitive and he won’t have learned much about fighting from them although he will have learned how to prepare via a camp and how to deal with pre/post fight emotions.

Lots to work on and he shouldn’t rush or be rushed

Joyce punch out put is to much for DDD , a plus for DDD is he fights harder when pressed he doesn't shell up. It would be a war but Joyce really isn't a prospect , neither is Hrgovic . Guys like this should be favored to win.

DDD seemed very relieved after winning last night, as if he'd been in a harder fight than he'd actually been in and as if he had been involved in a life and death struggle where he'd managed to pull victory out of the fire. Lartey rocked him a little with special African once or twice but he didn't look in any danger of losing at anytime to me so I was a bit surprised by his reaction.

Not overly impressed with Dubois. He got rocked a couple of times, which makes me question his chin, and he doesn't seem like a very good finisher.

Dubois needs to fight 3-4 times a year. He has no amateur experience, so he's essentially learning on the job.
