1st up 5'10 cruiserweight with the speed of my grandmother and then RJJ who looks like a frail old man who in his prime would never venture out of the US now suddenly wants to fight in australia! the whole things stinks! PerthKronk, keeping it real! ps whatfrock when has mundine fought in Montreal?
At least Mundine had to fight a good fighter for his IBO belt....this is a bit much....but it sets up Mundine to beat Green for the world title as well atsch
GREEN & ROY JONES Jnr spruik 'historic' Aussie fight - from ABC NEWS: (and note that RJJ might train with Mundine's camp while over here!) Green Machine... 'I think it could be the biggest fight that's ever taken place in this country'. Green Machine... 'I think it could be the biggest fight that's ever taken place in this country'. (AAP: Tony McDonough) Danny Green says a proposed fight with former world champion Roy Jones Junior would be the biggest bout in the history of Australian boxing. The two could meet in November if Green wins his fight with Argentina's Julio Cesar Dominguez on the undercard of Jones's bout with Jeff Lacy in August. Jones, 40, is seen as one of the best boxers of all-time and has held world titles in the middleweight, light-heavyweight and heavyweight divisions. Green says it would be a huge event if the fight comes off. "To bring Roy Jones Junior to Australia is a massive thing for boxing," he said. "He'd have to be the biggest name that's ever come to these shores probably, bar Jack Johnson back in the early 20th century," he said. "It's already gaining such massive momentum that by the time it comes around, I think it could be the biggest fight that's ever taken place in this country." It would be a first professional fight overseas for 40-year-old Jones, who has been notoriously travel-shy since his controversial loss in a 1988 Olympic final in Seoul. Speaking on a video conference call from the US, Jones said he was prepared to Australia to fight because he believed he would get a fair shake. Green, 36, (26-3, 23KOs), has won both a WBC Interim Super Middleweight title and the WBA Light Heavyweight title before briefly retiring from the sport. Asked about a rematch with his Australian arch rival Anthony Mundine, Green said that was not part of his mindset and that "The Man" paled to insignificance at world level compared to Jones. Jones (53-5, 39 KOs) said he could train with the Anthony Mundine camp in Australia. He has had previous associations with Mundine as his father has worked with the Australian fighter. Green said his first priority was defeating Dominguez (20-4-1), who he described as dangerous and a heavy puncher.
Oh, you know a bit about Dominguez do you ashley? Or just what you've seen on Boxrec? No doubt people all over the world (if they were even aware that the IBO MW belt was recently on the line) would have said the same thing about Geale (and probably Mundine :yep)
Boys who'd you think he was going to fight on the Jones v Lacy undercard, Tomasz Adamek or Chad Dawson??? The Jones fight will make him millions... it'd be terrible business sense to put him in with a hard fight prior.
Green is the JMM of Australia in terms of bad management. How much more $$$ would he have made defending his title against Roy in Australia? I could never understand that move. Insane. Danny consistently disapoints me, his career had so much potential. Pos Sullivan it's like everything has gone downhill or something.
Can someone explain to me another reason other than ducking Garay why Green retired when champion? Then comes back fight stiffs, then try & negotiate a fight that he can't win against an over the hill champion in RJJ. I think Green has Mandy fever.
Look, I don't claim to know what was going on that made Green retire instead of fighting Garay, but one thing I'm pretty sure of is that he wasn't scared of Garay...I mean, if he wasn't confident of beating Garay, and is as money-hungry as his critics say, why wouldn't he have still gone ahead with the fight and made $$$ out of a possible loss instead of just giving the title up?
