Really sad to see. Danny Williams is one of my all time favourite fighters, met him a few times and he is a lovely bloke. He has so much love for boxing but it's terrible to see him go out this way. Wish he would get into the training side of things or even promoting fighters. Really I hope to god to hangs his gloves up for good now. I know for a fact his family hate seeing him carry on, just like his true fans do.
Makes me wonder what sort of money can he realistically be earning on those fights????. I can't see it being a lot TBH, not over the course of a year. He'd be better off just getting a job as a personal minder or security. Or if he wants to stay in the boxing scene try his hand at training. It's just crazy that he's been in fights as recently as he has.
He did try a bit if security work but it wasn't for him apparently, he loves boxing and can't step away from it.
Lot of respect for Danny. In his way he is a British Boxing legend. I think his popularity and momentum was poisoned by the "mentality issue" comments that he received during his career. Sometimes he was just matched badly I think. Very similar to David Price in that regards. Although on one hand I suppose he is giving back to the sport as a journeyman for up and comers like Julius Francis ended up being maybe? Still wish he would stop.
His family must be leeches to keep letting him do this. Any sane family would find a way to stop him.
Well that's certainly a very tough love he's got then mate. I'm Sure his family and people close to him must try and talk him out if it too. I just hope he has a change of heart before it's really to late. I haven't seen any recent footage of him talking in any kind of interviews or YouTube clips etc, so I'm wondering how his general demeanor is round about now.
Absolutely sickening watching this and he was finished years ago when defeated by Fraudley. It was 4 years ago he was beaten by a Scottish guy who fought at lightweight - at this rate of trajectory, I can see Terence Harper wiping him out. Very very sad to watch this.
If you can carry out interventions for alcoholics and drug addicts I see no reasons why you can’t do the same for a man for appears to be addicted to suffering physical damage. The early 2000s were a great time for British boxing with Williams, Sprott and Skelton all regularly on the BBC.
