It's pretty rare for a Brit to bother keeping his hands up. They must have huge egos in Britain because look at all these guys. Witter, Froch, Haye, Hatton, Calzaghe for periods.

Hopefully Groves will be good enough to pull it off.

  3. I hate seeing boxers holding their hands down by their arse. Call me old fashioned but I prefer the hands held high and work behind the jab style. That's why I like Sutherland so much, that and he seems to be a top lad.

I will make my judgement of Sutherland when he actually bothers to fight someone his own size....he hasn't set my imagination running so far

I finally got round to watching Sutherland's last fight, I had it taped, and put it on last night. He impressed me, nice accurate jabs and body shots, he was very efficient and compact and I like the way he patently picked his shots and kept a tight defence. Looks good and a fight with De Gale next year would be very interesting, as I rate both very highly.

Looks like the best amateur to turn pro. He is a novice but has an impressive game. Skill, technique, power etc all looks quality. When he gets to 8 rounders I want to see him put in with speedsters who he will have to chase more, break down to the body more, time their shots more etc I think Sutherland could tame them all but someone with speed is always gonna be a killer. Though his amateur career vs guys like DeGale will put him in great stead.

Followed Darren probably 4-5 years now, in the ama's

Seen him take shots, he can take em.

His game is suited to the pros though

I remember hearing about Sutherland many years ago in Boxing News I believe it was. DeGale was reasonably well known as a top amateur. I think DeGale was the ABA champ and Sutherland had beaten him. I can't remember if Sutherland had a famous amateur coach. I think he did.

Anyway, he has looked to have a pro style for a long long time. In his amateur fight with DeGale he'd land body shots that don't get scored, his aggression etc isn't considered.

    It's all about the pros.

Edit: I think I'm getting the famous trainer bit confused with someone else. Might be Fury being trained by the Ingles. My brain is betraying me at the moment.

Nop, you're correct he spent some time with the Ingles before deciding to come back to Ireland get an education.

He's without doubt looked the best of the British and Irish olympians so far.
