I still think he's taking the ****. He was on about having 7 or 8 fights before even getting a shot at the British title. No chance he's doing that and fighting for nothing.
I think he will probably do a bit of a mini tour selling out small hall shows. All jokes a side this could be a really good boost for the small hall scene in general.
In the short term, for the specific venues. I doubt it would create a legacy to build upon thereafter. Let's be frank. Everyone loves Dave Allen. He's a breath of fresh air. Not only is he one of the best personalities in boxing, he always comes to fight and he does have power. He's beaten some excellent boxers in former World Champion Lucas Browne and Nick Webb who is on a tear up of his own just now. Yes, we are all concerned about his welfare but he loves boxing and is doing it for all the right reasons. The nation's sports fans will all be behind him. Welcome back, Dave.
Most of the fans he brings to the show probably havent a clue there are small hall scenes. They might have a good nighy and go to another one down the line. Any attention to small shows is a plus for me.
Listen, he's been with some of the best, Klitschko, Usyk, Tyson Fury, he's shared a ring with those three, yeah I know it's only sparring but it shows his pedigree. To be fair, at the end of the day and when all is said and done an on form and focused Dave Allen is a handful for any Heavyweight and I'm sure you'll be reminded of that in his next few fights.
Although it is only sparring it shows how respected he is in the highest of boxing circles. Styles make fights as they say, would W. Klitschko have chosen Allen for a voluntary in Germany? I highly doubt it. Allen's come forward, granite chin and big power are all wrong for W. Klitschko. This may seem a bit farfetched but if you look at some of the names Klitschko beat during his long reign, Allen would've wiped them out. Brock, Leapai, Mormeck, Pianeta and co. He may not have the most flair, but what he does he does very well and if you couple that with his personality then he's a real asset to British boxing. The way he has shunned the mental elf is also to be commended. He's come through a lot to stand today as the undisuputed hardest landlord in Doncaster.
He might be the Landlord, but he learned the hard way that when the Plumber calls at one of your rentals you better be ready to pay your dues
