I saw a rejuvenated Lemieux last night. He did good work with the combos and activity until Benevidez's power rocked him to the core and he wasn't able to recuperate. I think last night's version beats Saunders and Plant. Lemieux wasn't selective with his attacks and he paid for it with a guy like Benevidez. He'll have no concern with Saunders or Plant.
Lemieux looked no different from his previous fights, only looking for a big punch as usual and got slaughtered for it eventually. You are correct that Lemieux wasn't selective, something Canelo would be. Lemieux did have success unloading and backing Benavidez up but he has 0 head movement and cannot counterpunch. Plant and Saunders beat him, whether you want to deny reality is up to you
Canelo needs to stay away from Bivol because he cannot win. Bivol made him his kid. He needs to fight the likes of Benavidez, or at least give G his final payday before Benavidez.
I don’t know about large heavyweight bully. He makes weight like Paul Williams made weight at 147. Not his fault he’s tall and rangy with good handspeed. We can’t hold fighters attributes against them. He’s fighting where he’s comfortable at. As it is, he’s not very lean at all. I’d guess he could possibly make 160 with more effort. I don’t agree with overrated either. People have always thought he was a beast. Last night he did look faster than ever and defensively better with better counter punching. It was against a faded past champion though but he did what most expected without taking any damage. He can pose problems for Bivol as Benavidez is clearly a scrapper who throws more than one punch at a time hoping his power bails him out. Bivol even says Benavidez is very good. And he’s at a great age to pose serious problems to anyone right now. The only question is, how does he hold up under pressure after a serious shot? Canelo hasn’t been to eager to find out and I think that’s pretty clear especially after saying he won’t fight Mexicans anymore. Hopefully they get it on. The longer Canelo waits though, the slower he gets as he’s on the downside of his prime.
I doubt he takes it but he should really to cement 168. The fangirls will cry about Benavidez having not fought anyone. This however was the same excuse Canelo used to duck Andrade and Charlo so there is that.
Again that's Alvarez fans, don't blame Canelo for their foolishness. Of course he told Andrade he's a horrible boxer, that his opinion...he doesn't have a right to one. Yes, like Canelo is the 1st boxer in history to push his opponent before a fight. He's going to fight Bivol again anyway so he's cool with this He doesn't have to fight Benavidez, he can just give up the belt & move on...no biggie It is what it is...GGG fights under the DAZN platform, not PBC. Canelo wants to fight under Matchroom/DAZN platform...it's his career to manage, not OURS.
Yes I believe it. Canelo is the cash cow here and he runs his career. He operates on his timetable, not Benavidez so when he finally decided that he wanted to go for undisputed at 168...THAT'S WHEN DAVID SHOULD HAVE BEEN READY. But David wasn't, missing weight & doing coke was more important to him. Callum & Saul would never had fought for the WBC strap if David was disciplined.
Canelo would never have been undisputed if he fought Benavides, he would have been a has been right now. The gig is up. Canelo's judges should be in jail right now and the world knows it. The freaks are coming out at night, Canelo is afraid ,so he will stay in the house.
But we'll never know will we because Benavidez missed weight & pissed hot! But oh yes, that's the beauty in hypothetical, the "what if".
2020, Benavidez was ready. Where was Canelo? His previous fight was in 2019. Benavidez fought in August of 2020. Where was Canelo? He could have easily signed to fight Benavidez from the end of 2019 to August 2020 because Benavidez had the belt. Look at the timeline to truly see what happened. Benavidez won the WBC belt in September of 2019. Canelo beat Kovalev two months later. The drug issue was in 2018 and has nothing to do with both guys having won a title in the same division 2 months apart. The fight was aligned for a showdown between the two. Canelo clearly didn’t want it.
2020 was COVID. Barely anyone was fighting...whether it was Boxing or MMA. Again who is the A-side? who is the cash cow? Canelo does not have to fight Benavidez on HIS schedule, David has to fight Saul on HIS. Once Saul made the decision to go after undisputed (in late 2020)...whoever was a title holder then was in the sweepstakes. David couldn't keep his title twice. The coke & weight issue IS an ISSUE because once Canelo made the decision in LATE 2020 go for undisputed, David would have been one of the fighters involved in the tourney had he been discipline. Canelo wasn't thinking about undisputed at 168 in 2018 or 2019 which is evident by him going to 168 for 1 fight (2018) dropping back down to 160 for 1 fight (2019) then going up to 175 for 1 fight (2019) before making up his mind to go for undisputed at 168 (Dec 2020). Beside COVID, Benavidez had no belt in 2020.
They both fought in 2020. Yea, Canelo is the a side. Nobody really cares. All that means is that he had the ability to choose to fight Benavidez when Benavidez had the title. I don’t know why you think that makes Canelo look good. It doesn’t. It shows he avoided the guy who had the belt he supposedly wanted to get. It’s not a coincidence that he didn’t fight him and then decided to go for it after. No matter how you slice it, Canelo avoided him when the opportunity was ripe for both.
