Hindsight is 20/20...no one knew at the time if they would or wouldn't catch COVID, mask aren't always effective.

Only people that want to risk their health, need the money and have nothing to live for would take a risk like that.

when Benavidez had a belt at 168 Canelo was fighting GGG in a rematch at 160 and shortly after fought Jacobs to unify titles.
Just based off history Canelo has fought the #1 guy at 154 when he was told to duck he fought the #1 guy at 160 twice who everybody claim was so feared, he fought the #1 guy at 168 who ppl said would ko him just a year earlier.
There is nothing about Canelo resume that says he avoided or waited for Benavidez to lose his title, all that is just made up fan talk reality is Benavidez was in a gym with Caleb plant and plant slapped his brother in front of him and David ain’t do nothing.
These guys just all talk everybody calls out the cash cow that isn’t impressive, what you doing to prove it.

If we talking about this fight though as a Canelo fan I welcome it, Benavidez ain’t really done anything but he one of the new flavor of the month hypejobs so when Canelo demolish his ass it’s gonna be another notch to make these folks mad.
Benavidez just beat up a washed up middleweight who wasn’t even good at middleweight, meanwhile Canelo ran through Benavidez entire division in 4 fights at 168 Canelo all day, if he gets time and moves up at 175 Benavidez could be more dangerous

I think that although Benavedez makes 168 with no problem, he should move up because he will not get a fight with Canelo. He might be able to get Charlo which will an excellent fight.

Benavidez had a belt in 2020. Canelo fought for a 168 belt in 2020. These are facts. No amount of excuses will change it.

Like being a boxer? You cant wiggle out of this if you say boxers risk their life getting into the ring.

Canelo fought for a 168 belt on December 19th of 2020, the very end of 2020.

On August 15th of 2020, more than 5 months earlier, Benavidez was stripped of his title for coming in overweight, 2.8 pounds over the 168-pound limit.

    https://www.espn.com/boxing/story/_...-weight-stripped-wbc-super-middleweight-title

So Benavidez was not a belt holder when Canelo fought for a 168 belt at the end of 2020. And on top of that, Benavidez was not a DAZN fighter like Callum Smith was.

So Canelo before ever challenging for a full 168-lb world title, was ducking Benavidez who had been stripped of his title for losing his title on the scales while fighting for a different promotional outfit.

Your statement that Benavidez had a belt in 2020 is irrelevant. Benavidez was stripped of that belt on the scales in August 2020. Canelo didn't fight for a 168 belt that year until December.

The facts are Callum Smith was the World Super Middleweight Champion in 2020. That's THE fact. He became World Champ when he knocked out George Groves in 2018.

The facts are the first time Benavidez tried to defend a belt he'd won, Benavidez failed to make weight and lost his belt before he ever got in the ring.

And the first time Canelo fought in 2020, he fought the World Super Middleweight Champion Smith and Canelo won the WBA and WBC belts at the same time, handily.

    There's no denying THOSE facts.

Still, people don't give Alvarez any credit for beating Smith. Or for beating anyone else at the weight.

Imagine if he didn't fight Smith and instead fought the doughy Benavidez who couldn't even make weight over 12 rounds?

Think anyone would be praising Canelo for that? :duh

There would just be thread after thread about how Canelo ducked the "real" champion Callum Smith before Smith moved up. Guaranteed.

Seems like, to some, Canelo is always ducking someone else. Even when he fights the best guy at the weight. (See threads on his upcoming fight with the World Champ Golovkin as yet another example of this).

Doesn't matter that the other guys aren't fighting anyone. Doesn't matter if the other guys can't even make weight or even make a single title defense. Canelo is ducking them.

It's beyond childish at this point.

All they do is complain. Just enjoy the historic run we're all privileged to see.

Benavidez had the belt in 2020. Canelo had a belt in that same division since 2018. There is no reason they couldn’t have signed for a 2020 fight. None at all. It’s ok to say a guy has avoided a particular fighter. It has happened all throughout history.

Well, the first reason they couldn't fight in 2020 is there was a PANDEMIC THAT SHUT EVERYTHING DOWN MOST OF THE YEAR.

The second reason is Benavidez couldn't make even one defense without failing to make weight and lose his belt on the scale.

The third reason is Canelo signed to fight and BEAT the ACTUAL WORLD CHAMPION at that weight ... which Benavidez was not.

It's not okay to say a guy avoided a particular fighter when he actually fought THE WORLD CHAMPION and convincingly beat him instead.

That's not "avoiding" someone. It's CHALLENGING THE TOP GUY AT THE WEIGHT and trying to become champion.

Avoiding someone would actually be NOT fighting the World Champion and Top fighter at the weight (who was Callum Smith) and instead picking a doughy guy with no belt who couldn't even make weight.

That would be avoiding someone ... that would be avoiding the world champ.

Dude, do you know the different between Boxing & COVID? You cannot possible equate the two.

So basically anyone that does high-risk stunts in movies, plays professional Football, boxes for a living should say F it and go catch AIDS or COVID because they are risking their lives in their given profession anyway?

What about window washers or anyone in the US armed forces, they should go catch COVID or AIDS because they are risking their lives anyway.
