He just needs to pick on the smaller heavyweights. Wait it out for a fight with joshua. At this stage the bigger guys will probably tire him out. He can still do damage to the smaller guys tho...if the bellew performance wasnt all he has left anyway. He looked finished in that fight tbh. Maybe a wake up call or a chance to get rid of an ongoing injury with the achilles. Most people would have joshua a massive favourite. And he is. But bearing in mind we,ve seen him almost finished by whyte...i still say haye has as much chance as anyone currently fighting. Got about as much chance as wilder anyway. Joshuas defo not unbeatable but he goes in against anyone as a big favourite atm.
Bellew was making him miss and countering him at his freshest in their fight, that right there says it all
It's not like Haye wants to fight on because he loves the sport. He was very specific when he retired at age 30/31 that he does not love boxing, he sees it as a professional career to make money from while his health is still intact. He always said he sees his time in boxing as limited and wants out as soon as his bank account was large enough. He allegedly retired with something like $10-$15 million in the bank. Then he got an expensive divorce, he suffered losses from failed investments (a fitness venture in Dubai etc). A couple years ago Haye had to auction off his gym equipment on ebay for 40 grand. Not exactly the sign of a millionaire living in ideal financial conditions. Bellew kept taunting Haye how broke he was and he really got under Haye's skin with that. Fact is Haye now needs big fights because he needs the money. He thought he could retire and set himself up for life 6 years ago with the Wlad fight but that wasn't so. He's now literally BEGGING for big money fights after his disaster vs. Bellew.
I just dont really get why thats relevant. Regardless the reason hes fighting on or not what does it matter if its cause hes skint or not. He thinks he can fight on....we,ll soon find out if he can or not. I think its just a shade too early to say its completely over for him bearing in mind what happened in the bellew fight. The week before the fight...we hear reports of his leg being injured. He actually looks injured in the fight from the first round. The leg later gets damaged. There still is questionmarks. No ones saying their wanting to see an audley harrison. But at least hes got himself a pretty decent trainer...appears to be hungry. Hes at least worth another go at it. If he loses in an upset etc. Its time to retire from the top level. But until then i think its a case of lets see if theres anything left. History tells us hes up against it....but history also tells us george foreman became the heavyweight champion at 44 years old. That heavyweight divisions wide open atm...outside the top 5 or 6...the rest are average at best.
It's very relevant. If Haye had enough cash in the bank there's no way he'd fight on and lie to fans after his massive injuries (shoulder, Achilleus, toe). Haye knows he is only 70% or 80% from his peak physical condition considering his age and injury history. But he needs the cash. Desperately! So he keeps lying to naive fans about how "he will soon be 100% again and faster and better than ever!!!!".
Why care so much tho. You obviously wont be paying anything to see him fight again by the sound of things anyway. Surely the people that do pay their money are happy to pay it. He cant kid people on forever if he is damaged goods. I think hes got about one more defeat left in him before the numbers dwindle. But its a bit premature to say he has to retire. Also his two fights against the two poor comeback opponents we,re on free tv. No one paid for it. And the bellew fight sold very very well. If other people are still willing to pay for it...then why not. The truth is a poor opponent will most probably be on free and anyone half decent you then get the option to pay or not. Theirs not really anything to lose as a fan of boxing thats not a fan anyway. Personally i think hes finished at the top level. But theres still big questionmarks there atm especially with that heavyweight division being pretty much wide open. No fury. No klitchko. Even the guys with belts joshua/wilder look slightly vulnerable as good as joshua is. Maybe the bellew fight done him a favour but lets be honest if money was his only interested i m pretty sure he would have sacked that fight off when the leg went. I think he earned at least the chance to prove himself at least one more time with that personally.
What-ever his ability is right now ... time is not on his side. When I think of Haye I think of endless negotiation sagas, fights that don't eventuate, postponements, extended breaks between fights due to injuries etc. Not sure he has the time and not sure people have the patience for more of the same. I'd like to see him roll the dice sooner rather than later, and play whatever hand he has, rather than string out a few more years of speculation. Obvious comment I know ... just feel like the division might be starting to move on from all the sagas which were stalling it for so long.
no it wasn't at all. You see the pics of his Achilles surgery ?? It was a ***** toe job with Wlad, only a hater wouldn't recognise how bad it was against Bellew !!!! serious injury this time
