This is a ballsy move by Morrell, I respect it. From what I've seen so far the kid looks like a world beater in the making. I really like Ryder too so it's tough for me to prefer one over the other here, it's a great matchup nonetheless. Expect fireworks from this one boys, mark it in the calendar.
Good for Morrell, he could have sat on that paper belt like most paper champs do. So many Cubans have missed their shot to truly be great as they defected later in life... Morrell might be the one to change that.
If he beats Ryder, then Morrell is a legitimate top tier SMW after only 5 fights. SMW is heating up very nicely. Could be some great fights over the next couple of years. Once Canelo (imo) unifies titles, hes going to need opponents. Benavidez, Morrell, maybe Charlo if he moves up, Melikuziev, Gongora, Shishkin, Berlanga,Silyagin, Mbili all circling beneath.
It´s a 4-0 young Cuban going up against an established top 5 contender. Crazy stuff. And it´s for a regular WBA belt, so please don´t refer to it as a world title.

So after John dominated and easily beat Callum Smith being robbed of a real SMW world title Hearn benches him for an entire year, and now gets him a fight against for the WBA trinket plastic fake world title. Against a Cuban novice pro. Hearn really has treated Ryder like a ****, it must be said. Surely Ryder deserves a real title shot and for Hearn to dip into his pockets, as a thank you for taking the robbery like a man.
I get that. But for Ryder it Wil contractually be a world title and with that his pay/purse will increase. Canelo may also vacate before the end of the year and Ryder gets elevated to full champ
Ryder does deserve to be a champ after getting the shaft, but Morrell is probably going to box his lug off sadly If he wins the Regular strap that's as good enough for me to classify him as a champ considering the way he was robbed in the past Smith was beaten up pretty descively imo, think Ryder hurt Smith worse than Canelo. Smith also landed a lot more on Ryder though tbf.
