Caldwell reminds me a bit of Paddy Fitzpatrick when he got the Groves gig in that he doesn't appear ready to look after a high profile fighter eating or attempting to eat at the top table. I think he's woefully out of his depth and worried that everyone is going to realise that threw Price under the bus. As for big mouth, his days are numbers with a brutal KO coming his way. I really hope Haye doesn't do the whole hug and make up thing afterwards - Bellew is clearly a **** and should be treated as such when he wakes up from his first round nap.
The piece he did recently would suggest he's going to come out and swing for the fences hoping to land a big shot which just means he'll get KO'd even earlier than he would have had he decided to fight cautiously. I'm glad he admitted that he bottled it against Adonis though. I also believe him when he says he regrets not going for it in that fight. He realises now he had no chance of winning fighting timidly.
Has anyone got a link for Coldwell's interview? Does it sound like their working relationship is definitely over? As for Price I immediately thought it was over for him but since the dust has settled I do believe he could do something still. Just had to get as fit as possible then fight regularly in winnable but not bum fights. Then when he gets to the Allen level see what happens. As someone mentioned Chisora has lost 7 fights and still gets respect as a fighter. We should just forget the hype Price had early days and judge him on each fight from now on instead of the man who was going to dethrone Wlad.
Agree...the thing was i actually think price paniced and then went on to fight the wrong fight. Tried to get hammer out of there by pouring it on. If you watch from about the fourth or fifth round it actually was quite a frenetic pace. Price showed some of his best stuff. But i reckon he wouldnt have been the only big heavyweight to wilt at that pace. Just need to get him back to the drawing board gradually upping his competition. People only really remember that he gassed. What makes it worse is when he does gas he just stops. But watching it back it wasnt like he gassed just throwing out a few one two,s. He just paced himself really badly when he started to panic. Lack of experience with bowling people over. He ll always have problems but still think theres a career out there for him.
Coldwell basically admitted in the interview that he advised Price to retire but its his decision. He also revealed that he did 12 rounds of sparring with 2 opponents at a high pace the week before. He also further highligted that in sparring his jab was working fine, and he was not being walked down. There were no causes for concern in sparring at all for him- so Coldwell did his job. What happened again is that on fight night- Price gasses like crazy through nervous energy and then forgets everything he has learnt and goes back to type. Nothing as a trainer you can do about that. When he was 17 stone or whether he is almost 20 stone- he gasses like crazy unless he is able to smash his opponent out inside 5 rounds.
fans of price are like fans of the england footbal national team. no matter how many times they get knocked out, will still do better next time.
Like most mediocre fighters David Price's issues are mental, deep down he simply doesn't want it. And now he fears getting KO'd badly again more than he fears losing a fight. That showed. But I can't give his trainers a pass. Price was fat. In this fight and his two before that. There's no excuse for letting a guy get fat like that.
I don't believe a word of that from Bellew, also Coldwell made his thoughts quite clear with Price after the weekends embarrassment, he said he wanted to keep it long, keep using the jab and I think Bellew will use the exact same tactic. Bellew was put on his backside in the first round against Makabu so they won't risk getting too involved early with a huge puncher like Haye because he won't get up. And we've heard all this before when he fought Stevenson, Cleverly and a few others, Bellew said he was going to go out wreck them, destroy them because he has POWWWAAAH and he was anything but explosive.
I think that could be an awful strategy for bellew, haye will just wait for a big counter without having to exert too much energy himself. Then again I think trying to go in and throw bombs is an awful strategy aswell and will get him knocked out. Come to think of it I can't think of a single good strategy for bellew other than just not turning up.
Bellew has one strategy, keep on the back foot until the later rounds, and hope Haye runs out of gas. Win lose or draw, Bellew will still have his CW belt and that monsterous chip on his shoulder.
