Good luck to him…….don’t think he said no to anyone and that was his problem I think. He could bang but think he was with the wrong team around him at the time he needed proper coaching and management. He always seemed like a rabbit in front of headlights but give him his due he did give us some good nights. Think we need a new scouse accent to replace Bellews one so why not big Pricey.
Genuinely comes across as a decent bloke, has given us some great memories, and has had a good career he can look back on and be proud of. I wish him all the best in whatever he chooses to do next, and thanks for the memories big fella.
Good for him! I wanted him to retire after the Povetkin fight. Still good he’s called it a day now though
Good, glad to see him retire, from the genuinely affectionate responses, it just goes to show that boxing isn't all about glossy records and big titles, (although personally I hold the British title in much higher esteem than all those awful regional belts). Maybe a favourite Pricey moment thread? Mine would be his Kash Ali presser, he was HILARIOUS on that. Possibly followed by the Dave Allen beatdown.. Love to see him on commentary. Good luck in retirement big fella
This really sums up why the punishments are such a joke. In an alternate universe, who knows where pricey would have got
it was his gas tank as much of his chin. absolute unit and massive puncher indeed, i wonder if he trained hard enough.
One of my favourite moments was when he was getting pummelled by Hammer and he just pulled a combo out of nowhere and put Hammer on his backside. Nobody looked more shocked than big Pricey. It was just proper 'where did that come from' muscle memory at its best haha. Shame he folded but a great moment. He did the same against Povetkin, he landed that beautiful hook and his expression was a bit like when Spiderman realised he had super powers for the first time.
Always liked watching Pricey. Glad he’s retired now. Hope his last payday against Chisora was a good one.
Oh I was YELLING at the television when he rocked Povetkin, that was ironically one of his best performances, I think because he was expected to lose, the pressure was off, and he boxed really well that night, up until that dreadful KO that is..... I just used to get frustrated with his lack of a heavy jab, always seemed tentative, but was decent in the Allen contest
Will miss Pricey. When he was on a bill, it was a must watch fight, for me. Big punchers who are likely to get dropped themselves are always entertaining and value for money. It took some doing, coming back from setbacks in his career. I think he had a good career and gave the fans some memorable nights. I am pretty gutted he has retired. We haven’t got another Pricey.
A fighter you always wanted more for, had a lot of horrible luck with the drug cheats and the short notice jobs. Too brave taking so many short notice fights and taking some poor advice to gain so much weight under Coldwell. Achieved a lot in his career and more than most can dream of but honestly believe he was capable of so much more but it was a perfect storm of bad luck and poor timing. British boxing is poorer for not having him putting on exciting fights but hopefully he can get a career in broadcasting. Good Luck Big Fella. Gutted.
Very true, the doubts only crept in after the drug cheats from what he has said and he didn't find out for 2 years for Thompson. That's a long time to be questioning yourself and it changed him as a fighter. Disgrace that Teper wasn't listed as a no contest.
Been a rocky ride for the big man. Just wasnt quite good enough in the end but do suspect it was a man that wasnt on the gear against guys that we,re a lot of the time. And a guy that didnt quite believe in himself enough against guys that did. He fought through it tho...when it would have probably been easier to call it a day. Retirement should have came sooner...but at the same time i,d have loved to see the big man take a couple of winnable fights and finishing off with maybe babic. Deserved to go out on a high. One of the good guys pricey. I dont care if he didnt win a world title...seeing him in that suit was worth ten world titles.
