To be fair to him though, it's a very unfashionable bout and my guess is that its not one that the American audience are/were calling for? I'm no Dawson fan but I'm not overly concerned that this fight hasnt happened.

 

Fashions change in America. There was a time when fighting a fighter like Secundo Mercado in Ecuador was all the range...of course, that was back when it was still fashionable for a champion to fight his mandatory challengers.

I'm no Dawson fan but I'm not overly concerned that the Calzaghe fight won't happen.

American audiences will call for what they're told to call for. They were told to call for Dawson v. Tarver, and they did, and Dawson became the uncrowned p4p No. 1 on the basis of that epic win against a prime Tarver.
