Huh, it would be a cool experiment to see the effects of same day weigh-ins on fighters' health vs. day before. See if fighters from that era suffered more brain damage or something compared to fighters from this era. A bit hard to probably do because everything isn't ever equal. Amount of times fought, opponent, length of bout, etc. Still, it's a thought.

Or they could just look at the data, and do tests on dehydration and it´s effects on the brain.
Commisions should take note of the WBC´s 30 day weigh in plan and the IBF 10 pound plan.

Same day weigh ins would lead to more deaths in the ring. I thought that was the reason why they stopped doing it.

    I don't think they're stupid.

I think they'd be safe enough if a fighter was professional and he fighting in his natural weight class.

Back in the day, many guys used to rehydrate by just 1-2 pounds, not like the crazy weights of Canelo and Chavez etc.

They wouldn't be as weakened if they kept in shape and fought in their natural weight class.

Bob Foster once said that if he stayed out of the gym for 6 weeks while he was a LHW, his weight would only go as high as around 178 pounds.

Same day weigh-ins with a dehydration test would be a good shout for me.

In football, many clubs make their players pee in a cup to test their hydration levels prior to training. If they haven't hydrated enough they don't get to train.

Not if fighters had more discipline and fought in their natural weight classes.

It's unbelievable that guys like Canelo weigh in as a JMW and then enter the ring as a LHW, when you had guys like Hagler who'd weigh in below MW on the day of the fight.

The only reason it happened is because then there's a smaller chance the fight doesn't happen because of failing the weight.
Like the whole 15 to 12 round thing was more about fitting inside tv blocks as it was for fighter safety. Safety is the magic word for this, but in reality it's about money.

People say same day weigh in are dangerous and unfair, well I'll tell you what else is dangerous and unfair - someone who weighs almost 180lbs fighting someone who who barely weighs 160lbs ala Canelo vs Khan.

I remember watching Nicholas Walters vs Vic Darchinyan and the commentators being amazed at the size of Walters and saying how it looked like a welterweight vs a tiny a featherweight. Well the reason why it looked like that was because that's exactly what it was, Walters is someone who has the luxery (and massive advantage) and being able to cut and then regain a huge amount of weight in a short space of time and still be able to perform.

Needless to say Darchinyan took a vicious beating before getting brutally KO'd. Similar thing happened with Walters against Donaire, rediculous size mismatch.

No same day weigh ins because of safety my @ss.
