Honestly I had this a very close win for DLH, could have gone either way, but the early rounds Oscars body work is what saved him in the late rounds, Sturm should have started to turn it on earlier he would have won. But he figured alls he had to do was defend, in america against a household name like De La Hoya your not going to get the nod when you sit back and wait the first half of the fight, especially when you have no name for yourself and especially when you have DLH Hopkins on the Horizon.
The night of the fight I had it 7-5 Oscar. Never seen it since. But I have always thought that anyway you look at it, Sturm's corner were dumb ****s to tell him to run and drop the last 2 rounds. The way things were going from rounds 6 to 10, Sturm would have won easy had he continued to do what he was doing. But he ran and the judges were too happy for the opportunity to give those rounds to DLH.
Sturm is the WBA Champ, Oscar is nothing but a glorified promoter at this point. Go Pac Man!!! BTW, 8-4 Sturm. Robbery of the Decade.
8-4 Felix Sturm. Terrible terrible robbery. Sturm was a 20 fight novice too. This is why Hopkins win over De La Hoya is not that impressive.
I had it 6-6 . But I thought Sturm was better. On re-watching, I believe 7-5 for Sturm would have been fair. Oscar got somewhat of a gift.
He just got his ass kicked. Hamed wasn't training well for Barrera either, its not seen as a legit excuse. He never was a passable middleweight and it showed up badly in this fight against a Sturm that had little experience and travelled to the US.
when i first watched it live i thought it was a clear robbery, now i have rewatched it last week and i thought it was closer, 7-4 sturm and one even - maybe even 7-5. but it was clear that sturm had total control of what was going on and de la hoya must have thought he is in a bad dream...
119-109 Sturm I gave Oscar the fourth round. All his flurries right into Sturms elbows didn't impress me. Sturms defense and jab did Andrey
