What you can't do is admit you haven't watched the fights. The 90s wasn't that much of a progression, a retired dinosaur from the 70s was able to knock out the HW champion in the 90s. It isn't about eras being on the same level, what kind of sweeping bs is that anyways? Boxing is and always will be a matchup between two people. You can't vaguely decide based on what era someone is from, you have to watch the fighters and make a stylistic argument. I mean look how poor the LW division is now compared to the 1930s. But that doesn't mean every top ten lightweight from the 30s beats every top ten lightweight from today. You have to debate each case one at a time.
You're using a fallacy of me not watching fights to back up your own ignorance about boxing techniques Lomachenko would beat any lightweight from the 1930s
There's a difference between fallacy and fact. You should set some time aside and watch the lightweight fighters from the 1930s, they're incredible. No one seriously thinks Lomachenko would beat Armstrong. He couldn't cope with the pressure and tactics of Salido, Armstrong is a whole different level.
So you're using a fight in his second pro fight against him? Seriously? Loma is god compared to Armstrong. Stratsphere's apart in skill. Russell Jr and Walters would batter Armstrong, nevermind Loma
I noticed you don't allow excuses for fighters so I assumed the same in this case. I was gonna go further but then I saw your second paragraph, lol. Let's end this one here. Only thing I'll say to you on this matter is go and watch some of the old masters.
The thing is you seem to be of the mindset of not giving fighters of the last 30 years credit where as you give flash in a pan fighters from eons ago all the credit in the world Why aren't you giving credit to Russell Jr and Walters for their careers? They have great wins and performances.
Plenty of boxers from the last 30 years have featured in the lists I've done. I give credit to anyone I watch and like what I see. I've been watching some Azumah Nelson today. No doubt you think he loses to every FW fighter currently active. They credit for reaching a position where they were arguably number 1 in their division. In fact I give Walters a lot of credit, he is by far the best victory of Lomas. Although it's ironic you mention flash in the pan as that's exactly what he was. As for GRJ. He fights once a year against mediocre opposition. He looked very good against Jhonny Gonzalez, but that's essentially the highlight of his career and that was 5 years ago. It's hard crediting fighters who don't fight the best in their division.
No I rate Nelson highly. I think Nelson beats the breaks off Armstrong and Ross As for Walters he beat P4P level talents like Donaire and Darchinyan. Russell's career dispoints somewhat but he's obviously at a very high level technically. That aside on a technical level Lomachenko is ridiculous.
Due to progression though I assume you think Warrington beats Nelson. Walters had one good year against 2 blown up past prime fighters. That's the sum of his career. GRJ is not obviously on a high level, you have to beat world class opposition to prove you're on a high level. At my gym I was sparring with a featherweight who had decent amateur experience. I'm a LHW who has won nothing. This FW made our sparring look like Ali vs Williams, he was cocky as well and threw some hard power shots, I really wanted to hit him back but I couldn't land a punch, it was only 3 minutes but he buzzed me quite hard and evaded everything I threw. You can only look as good as the opponent you're facing.
Really? McFarland was awesome! Guy beat the likes of Kid Goodman, Kid Herman, Freddie Welsh, Jimmy Britt, Young Erne, Jack Britton ect. round the LW limit. I think he's a good-un for top 5, although I could see Gans, Ortiz and Ike above him.
Yeah I get his unbeaten record, and no one wanted to face him, and I get how highly he was regarded at the time. But I struggle to take 6 rounders seriously and I have reservations about a guy when the best victories are in no decision fights. He had his chance against Welsh in a title fight as well. I go through phases with Packey tbh, so he might yet make an appearance on my list yet.
