When one ***** isn't treating you right go to the other... That's how I look at Boxing, Kickboxing and MMA. Love all 3.
In mma when you get hurt badly, the fighter can pounce right on you and finish the fight. In boxing when you are hurt and dropped, you have a chance to recover and resume your beating. That is a huge, huge difference. And it leads to more prolonged beatings and more brain damage. In mma, there can be a lot of 'down' time while trying to grapple for position, and its possible to maneuver a fight in a way that substantially limits the amount of time is even spent striking during the fight. The fights also last longer in boxing, which again allows for more punishment. So basically, the reason I think boxers face more potential damage than mma fighters do, on average, is due to the way the sports are intrinsically structured (glove size, getting up from kd's, more landed strikes, longer fight times, ect) just my .02 though
I concur there. But I don't think the difference is as substantial as some would like to think(at least not always) regardless of side. What's funny is that I've seen MMA apologists/purists use this argument against boxing in saying that's it's the more humane and less barbaric of the two - Where as boxing purists use it as means to argue that boxing is the "tougher." sport. I think a lot of it is just pointless banter and in short just a pissing contest. At the end of the day ALL contract combat sports are dangerous where tragedy can occur... Boxing obviously has a longer history where it's easier to collect data on these kind of things.. But there are plenty of MMA fighters who suffer from the trauma they've endured in the sport. I don't think it serves these competitors well to downplay the other.
You ever trained MMA or KB or MT? So how does Muay Thai in Thailand compare to boxing in terms of being a “harder” sport? You ever done over 3 rounds in the clinch with knees and elbows? More energy and strength required in boxing....joke. Got a test for you. Punch a bag 100 Times full venom. Then knee or kick a bag 100 Times full venom then talk to me about which requires more energy and strength energy. I’ve never trained MMA but have trained MT and fought MT for years and also trained boxing and been a pro sparring partner for pro boxers here in Thailand but never fought in boxing. I can see just by just watching and occasionally training next to MMA guys the strength and high level of fitness you need to grapple and fight in all styles for 3 to 5 min rounds. I hate the combat sport comparisons I love them all and believe they all have a place. Some are more developed than others. MMA in the scheme of things is kind of new. I believe it is still in it’s early days where as boxing and Thai boxing have real pedigree and age so are very developed. Give MMA some time...it’s a great sport. As an MT guy I used to hate it but as it has progressed and developed pretty quickly i have really stated to enjoy it. I still love MT, KB boxing and MMA. They are all children of the same mother.
