Degale and Groves look like 2 exceptional prospects...

....people have to acknowledge that you rarely see fighters carry out a fight plan to perfection during their whole fight careers ...never mind their 13th fight....Groves looks a real technician for one so young.


i had groves winning by one point but still see degale as becoming the better fighter over time (he just needs to dump his terrible trainer). some of degales behaviour/and inability to adapt was down to his nutthugging trainer.


people laughed when DWYER predicted degale would beat bute/kessler/dirrell etc....i would go one step further..,i would also say Groves has a excellent shot against those guys.....no one on Butes resume (even in 30 fights!) is remotley as talented as these 2...thats embarrasing!

 

Our beloved fans just can't stop overwhelming the forums with the negatives. But I'm with you. I expected a nice fight and one prospect to look out for, and I was entertained and now have two careers to follow. Dunno about them vs. the elite just yet, but they are young and can improve.

Groves showed amazing mental strength and Degale though more talented showed inexperience and ignorance,,,,,,its a must watch ...Groves did exactly what he said....Degale didnt beleive that version of Groves was there.

They only fought British level competition. Bute toyed with Magee who supposed to be some kind of European champion LOL! British level competition is crap, is easy to look good vs crappy competition. You people are embarrassing.

I think it's just more the fact that Groves is only slightly less average..................

De Gale was way overrated. He had a medicore amateur career pre Olympics - he just found some great form when it mattered.

Gavin is the real deal.

They are both still very young. They will both make it to world level in time.

 

Which top young American 160 fighters are these? Remember, George Groves is 23; the likes of Edwin Rodriguez, Marcus Johnson and Don George have a few years on him.

Best Under-25 160 American right now is probably Scott Sigmon. Ranked 91.

Most have been beaten. Rodriguez is yet to go 12 rounds. None look as mature, tactically sound or gutsy as Groves. The English are (often justifiably) accused of being biased towards their own domestic fighters on these boards, but it is often the case that the Anti-British Americans are just as reactionary.

He looked good. Name some names if you're going to chime in about 160 Americans that would blow Groves out of the water or pipe the **** down.

 

This fight was sold as a domestic grudge match, no one claimed that these guys are world class yet. They are both young prospects that should go onto bigger and better things.

Strange that you've used the Bute-Magee analogy. It's a different weight division, Magee isn't British and he's 36 years old (Groves and DeGale are in their early 20s) and for your information Magee IS the European champion, not some form of European Champion.

And for the record, I'm not even British - so this response wasn't based on any sense of national pride

 

Good post. I was going to reply to the same theme of posts on here. Some people (presumably Anti-Brits) look at Groves and DeGale as if they're 25 fights in then compare them with World class fighters and say they're lacking. Of course they're lacking, they're inexperienced new pro's!

In terms of potential both Groves and Degale have tons, and at this stage of their careers look exciting for the future.

 

I'd also like to hear who these American Middleweights are. :huh

 

Why are people talking about 160? Both Groves and Degale fight at 168.

 

I just wanna say that DeGale was very, very overrated. I saw his fight prior to the Groves fight and saw none of the flashes of brilliance everyone spoke of. It's not a knock on DeGale himself but he has no business being spoken of that way.

 

I dont know whether I'm underrating Groves, but I dont rate Edwin Rodriguez that highly, yet I dont think Groves is any better than him, but as I say, that might be me underrating Groves ability.

Don George is a non starter for me, that kid isn't going to make it to the top imo, I saw him get a bit of a pasting on ESPN a while back.

I was shocked to hear that Marcus Johnson lost, haven't seen the fight yet, but I cant believe Davis beat him, the same Davis who Arron Pyor jr dominated, who Rodriguez beat relatively comfortable from what I remember.


I still think Johnson and Rodriguez could give Groves problems.
