he gave it away in the sense of he was too passive. yea a lot of it was due to groves's movement. but every time degale attacked he won exchanges
Have to give credit to Groves and Booth though. They spotted the flaws and exploited them. Big credit to Groves I didn't think he would have the discipline to set the plan in place and keep it going. Was expecting to see him lose his head after some exchanges especially with Degale using some dirty tactics which I thought were aimed at getting Groves to come after him. Would of been good to hear the advice a bit more but it seems every round has ads after them now.
Plain and simple Groves wanted the fight more then Degale, Degale fought stupid for a guy that was one or two fights from multi million dollor pay days he fought with no heart his corner sure did not help, now he needs to get a rematch asap and you know thats not going to happen soon Because Groves will milk it for a while so thats not good for Degale to bad he did not use his brain and Im sure he's kicking himself today.
Bollocks, Groves was just better than him. DeGale wasn't fighting at his optimum because Groves didn't let him. This bull**** has to stop.
**** you Pretty much it. I expected DeGale to win, but Groves took the play away from him and was well worth it in the end. To be honest I was amazed how bad DeGale looked having to lead off, I guess they just underestimated both Groves and The Dark Lord's ability to put a plan together. If the preparation is wrong and the sparring partners are wrong, you're asking for trouble if the opponent turns the tables. It's not as if Groves is anything specific that you've got to prepare for, if you are fighting Tommy Hearns you want someone tall with a brilliant jab and a right hand that can take your head off. Groves has shown bits of allsorts with varying degrees of success..... just using Cleverly was pretty lazy in hindsight.
I also hate this whole "DeGale hurt Groves every time he landed" pish. First, no he didn't. He hurt George once and that was due to leading with his head. Second, if he could hurt Groves every time he landed, why wasn't he knocking him about? Third, if Groves wasn't hurting DeGale, why was he so reluctant to stand in there? Fourth, Groves did some damage to DeGale's body in the late rounds. Basically, the first time DeGale faced a threat and he couldn't deal with it, he lost. End of discussion. Let's stop making excuses for him. he did nothing to deserve them. Everyone should stop talking about his massive potential UNTIL HE EARNS THE ACCLAIM.
Im not taking anything away from Groves he fought a blinder and although i scored it degale i aint gonna complain much with groves taking it. Groves definitely stumped degale which is partly to blame on his preparation as he looked completely lost in rounds 2-5. I literally couldnt understand why he didnt get inside more (or at least try to) because whenever he did he was getting results. I had a bet on degale in the 10th and after the end of the 9th i thought i was in there but then he just stepped back again. clearly degale and his corner thought he was gonna come rushing in hence the sparring with cleverly and thats a credit to groves for sticking to his gameplan so well. Hopefully this win helps bring him back down to ground, im not one to say "change trainer" everytime a fighter loses but i think his corner shouldve helped send him out with new ideas after the 2nd/3rd so maybe that would be a good choice. Maybe even a trip to america (another thing i think is overly suggested on this forum) with a cocky lad maybe that would be wise just to get him away from the hype. Am i the only one who was reasonably impressed with the subtleties of degales defence. He got hit a few times with decent looking punches but when you saw the replays almost all of the shots were at least partly blocked or slipped while he was catching groves with decent shots.
the truth is Degale and Mcdonnel were confused by the tactics of Groves and Booth -simple. Degale looked lost for the first 6 rounds or so. He was out thought and beaten to the punch at times. However, degale had some great shots but these were to few-far between. Degale lost this fight as he didn't know how to react/adapt to a opponents tactics -thats something you can try to teach but in the heat of the battle only few top fighters can change their game plan according to surprise tactics of the opponent.
No i dont think he gave the fight away having just watched it. They came in with a poor gameplan and could have given themselves a better chance of winning, what cant be forgotten is that Groves could have had every chance of ad******g to whatever gameplan Degale brought in, he had a plan A,B and C and it told, Degale only came in with a Plan A and that was to bully Groves from the start, unfortunately Groves and Booth were just to clever and astute. 115 - 114 Groves.
Calm yourself down pal. I didn't even see the fight and just stated the impression im getting. Just cos you don't like DeGale doesn't mean you have to jump on posts. Your boy won be happy ffs! Least that makes up for Pascal getting beat.
False. Degale didnt maneuver Groves around, Groves chose to move. Groves team must have seen that Degale needs to plant his feet to throw his fast combos, so Groves didnt let Degale set himself up as he likes. It was a close fight that I think Groves deserved, but lets be fair to George. Degale didnt give the fight away, George didnt let Degale do what he would have liked to do and confused Degale with his back foot boxing
