Not sure Degale will be a world champ at all to be honest. Is a decent boxer but lacks power in his punches
His immediate run before challenging Froch? No, those last three opponents were dire. Even so, DeGale has done nothing to compare with Groves' two-year run in 2011 and 2012...beating DeGale himself, Paul Smith, Francisco Sierra and Glen Johnson. (none of those are world-stopping achievements, but in sum they do add up to at least near deserved contention, and that's a fair distance ahead of what DeGale has done since...)
He had wins over Gonsalez, Sierra, Johnson, Degale himself and a quikc knockout of paul smith which chunky 9 rounds to get out of there so it wasnt excactly a Deontay Wilder resume was it. I personally however believe Degale beats Froch
I bet on Groves to beat DeGale and Froch. I also put a side bet on for Groves to finish Froch inside the distance. I thought Groves beat DeGale in a good technical fight. As for the Froch/Groves rematch, its a tough one to call. I was sure Groves would beat Froch first time around, but once a fighter loses his unbeaten record and by stoppage, then often something else seems to leave them and I dont know if Groves will get that back. Will Groves now have the confidence to stand and trade? I think Froch will be a bit more cautious early on. At the moment I cant decide who I think will win the rematch after thinking I had it right first time and looking like I had it right for much of the fight. I didnt like the stoppage and thought Groves was OK. As for Degale, I think he to is a great fighter who due to style think could give Ward and Froch all types of problems
Why lol? What prime quick boxers have you seen Ward beat? He had no interest in Bute I read he didnt go into full training when due to fight Dirrell before it was cancelled 2 weeks before due.
I couldn't really choose between Degale and Groves, either in their fight, their fights since,or their abilities. But I think the OPs prediction just might be proved correct.I make Groves/Froch a 50 50 fight now,but think theres a possibility that Froch just walks through him this time.Degale,on the other hand, appears to have an easier route to a title, and I think he would beat Bika. On the other hand,I would like Groves to come on top of this pile.Dont like sportsmen making personal insults, which both Froch and Degale resorted to.Exciting boxer too, with a few miles left on the clock.I would like him to be a bit more active, though,AND get a manager.
The OP said Groves fought the fight of his life against Froch. That was probably true, but I hope it isn't.Hope theres plenty more [winning}fights like that.I think he'd have fought back in that round and at the very worst been robbed of a decision. He may have lost the element of surprise next time, but I still hope he does it.Not beyond bounds of possibility that they both win titles and 3rd fight is a unification. That would be something.
Said in a recent ifl interview he gets 6 figures per fight on channel 5 so he's not doing too badly if that's true
Degale is he reached his potential could be very good but he has a poor trainer, as well as that he sits on the ropes too much at times, if he done that against Froch he would get killed, he would outbox him but them stupid moments cost him dearly
Is McDonnell a poor trainer?? I know he's very much into fitness but with his background thought he would be at least good at the technical stuff also. I know it doesn't always follow but a bit surprised to see this.
He was poor in the groves fight even tho I still had chunky winning by a round. Should have had degale cutting off the ring a lot sooner than the mid-late round. Still hasn't got chunky punching correctly.
Noting I've seen suggests DeGale is more talented. Regardless of who wins a title 1st, I think Groves is the better fighter right now. Don't see why Froch will be able to KO Groves inside 4 when he couldn't do it that in the 1st fight. I thought Groves won the fight with DeGale. All in all I think you're under rating Groves and/or over rating Froch and DeGale.
