Good post. Yes Ali-Foreman has been subject to a bit of revisionism over the years - tales of Muhammad being blitzed for seven rounds than suddenly coming to life in the eighth etc. Obviously George got a few headshots in but there were only a few of them. It was to the body that Ali sucked plenty of them up. Look at Muhammad's face post fight,it was virtually unmarked.

Thanks buddy. I was shocked by the results of the George Foreman vs Joe Frazier fight on Jan 22 1973, I was watching The Doris Day Show on CBS when the marquee at the bottom of the television screen reflected the outcome. I was also $10.00 richer, I bet a classmate, collected the next day. My reasoning for choosing George was that Joe Frazier suffered a lot of physical and mental damage in the Fight Of The Century on March 8 1971 against challenger Muhammad Ali, he then chose fringe challengers like Terry Daniels, on Jan 15 1972, then Ron Stander, May 25 1972. I figured that Joe was mentally and physically drained when he faced Foreman. I was right.

You were shocked at the results, even though you bet on Foreman?

I was because I felt that I was taking a chance on Frazier's toughness, but when I saw the bottom marquee on the bottom of the television screen I felt a sense of relief. A week later my family and I saw it on ABC's Wide World Of Sports, I also took a chance on Frazier not fighting dangerous opponents in a long time, Daniels and Stander? That $ 10.00 bought me a good amount of hamburger's. This place that we frequented had 10 hamburgers for $1.00 with everything on them.

Apart from (obviously) the Chuck Wepner version of Liston and Terry Daniels version of El Cleveland Williams who's the third?

Foreman was more technical than given credit for, often using parrying and long guard techniques aided by his great balance and reflexes. Wilder on the other hand is Max Baer.

Wilder has heart, this is actually possible. He showed tons of guts in the Fury and Ortiz fights getting dropped, buzzed, glossy eyed, etc but kept fighting.

I think if Wilder respects Foreman and picks his shots it could be a shootout that goes either way. But if Wilder is overconfident, then Foreman's edge in body punching, timing, and fundamentals would break Wilder down by the 3rd.

From personal experience there is nothing overly dramatic about claiming you blacked/whited out while still standing upright.

Jimmy Young also said he blacked out temporarily and forgot where he was (including the Foreman fight). I suspect this is what happened to Charles Martin when Ortiz rocked him badly, Martin literally started talking to the crowd and forgot he was in a boxing match.

From personal experience, I remember I got hit by a nasty shot and saw nothing but white for 0.5 seconds before I blinked and figured out where I was and quickly put my guard up. Nothing crazy about Ali's statement.
