Wilder withstood all those punches so long thanks to his incredible strength, incredible physical fitness, incredible chin, and incredible heart he showed in that fight, any other fighter would be put to sleep early in the fight...
He was a zombie from the fifth round and still managed to take it so deep. Regardless how you feel about him, he’s one tough motherf****r. Flip side from a Fury perspective, should never have taken that long to put him away.
Almost. ... and pissed it away after falling in love with what his right hand could do to journeymen and the odd gatekeeper. Dude had a belt, the easiest way to get fights made because everyone wants to take it off you - failing to step up and fight genuine contenders is on him. Assuming he'd beaten them (not necessarily a safe assumption) he'd have been in a better place for this fight... Problem is, he never really wanted to be the best, he only ever wanted to claim it, which led him into the cherrypick that ****ed it all up for him.
Doesn't matter, it's boxing not a Nobel peace prize. Plenty of boxers were horrible outside the ring and showed great courage. Wilder showed insane heart whether you want to give him credit or not.
Deontay Wilder took big shots, the kind of shots that put most heavyweights away, that proves to me his chin is exellent. The difference in this fight and the reason why it would be so difficult for Wilder to beat Fury is Fury's sheer size and weight. When two heavyweights are of similar size in regards to weight, the bigger fighter can always find a way to rest when he's fatigued from shooting his punching load. There were long stretches in the fight where both fighters looked really fatigued, and when they're both fatigued that benefits Fury because fatigue causes fighters to clinch and grab, body up on the inside, and we know that from that distance Wilder is lost. He's not physically strong enough to make his punches count throwing them from up close, where as Fury was tapping him to the head, digging the body, and shooting the uppercut from underneath. I thought Wilder's stamina was better than Fury's last night, it had to be or he would'nt have survived as long as he did against the mammoth Fury. Imo Wilder had the advantage when the fight was being fought mid to long distance, but as soon as it got close, Fury would dominate. The reason Fury outlasted Wilder is because of his size and ability to relax when the fight is up close. Fury could by time on the inside, Wilder slim frame just could'nt. There are those who criticized Wilder putting on weight for this fight, imo had he not done so, it would have ended exactly like the second fight, much sooner. That extra weight by Wilder allowed him to hang in there for as long as he did.
Think he's getting too much credit here. How's about we continue with The Gypsy King adulation and jump right back onboard the Usyk love train too?
It should go without saying that Fury has as big a heart as has ever been seen in the sport. He's a special, special, SPECIAL fighter, and I've been saying it for fifteen years. The prophecy will be fulfilled, it's inexorable.
