****Deontay Wilder Scores First Round KO after Three Month Layoff****

Yea, it's hard to imagine he usually weighs in around 215 being 6'7.

He doesn't look that light in person. A basketball player friend of mine from high school was same height and weight, but Wilder is definitely thicker than him.

 

Needs to up his competition before we get too excited, but definitely someone to keep an eye on.

 

deontay wilder is gonna be a force in the HW divison, he possess all the tools. if he can develop a more accurate jab and control distance, then this guy could be the second coming of lennox lewis.

Think Hamer would be a bit much for Wilder at the moment, but Deontay has quite a bit more upside. He hasnt yet fought an opponent who was there to win and had any sort of warriors mentality, but he's done what he is supposed to be doing in perhaps more impressive fashion than most spoonfed prospects. He has big power with the right.

His left at the moment is just awful, though. I think that's his barrier, and I happen to know for a fact its a major focus of his in training. Once he gets a two fisted offense figured out, he'll become quite the force.

 

I'm interested to see how Wilder fares; he's got the kind of work ethic that can get the most out of what he's capable of, which is a great starting point considering it'll take him some time to get there.

My main concern, and it's one I don't think we'll be able to put to rest for some time (until he starts fighting punchers down the road) is the same as it'd be with anybody that's 6'7 and 215- his ability to take a punch.

Definitely a fighter to keep an eye on for the future regardless.

I wouldn't say theres any gurantee either of these guys will be top 15..but wilder appears to be to have the better chance. i think hamers best chance to beat him would be now before wilder has fully matured. wilder has the higher ceiling. interested to see how tor looks against that lazy journeyman dominic jenkins dec 16 according to boxrec

 

Meh, he hasn't been boxing for very long, and he's definitely much better than he was a few years ago.

That is the one thing I'm worried about with him though, whether or not he can take a punch. I'll reserve my judgement until I see him fight a hard-hitting pro.

That vid just makes me sad, seeing how pathetic American boxing is these days, our amateur program is ****.

 

it truly is a pity that you have to refer back to the amatuers to find deontay wilder or any other americans getting dominated. was the guy that knocked him out went pro?? do you think he can beat him today? are you under the impression that your skills as an amatuer wont change when you go pro? you truly are pathetic. amatuers are completely pointless if you ask me. russians aren't dominating the pros last time i checked. why dont you pull up a vid of oleg maskeav getting planted through out his career:good. that'll give us an idea how the russians are "dominating" boxing. they sure dominate the highlight reels when they're at the recieving end of a brutal knockout!!

 

Wilder is still raw but with that said he has good power. I'm interested in his progress.

 

Have you seen the fighters that populate the top 20 these days?

I doubt guys like Austin, Dimitrenko, Estrada, Thompson could handle either one of these prospects once they get some fights under their belts. I mean, it's speculation at this point, but just on talent alone it seems like they should both be able to break into the top 20 in the next couple years if they stay active.

 

Well, I for one find it far more impressive to watch a top amateur beat his fellow top rival by way of knockout taking into account that they fight with headgear and a supercautious ref behind their backs.
Far easier for a top prize fighter to knock his fellow rival out,dont you think so!

Difficult to find a vid with Wilders in the pros where he got dominated. Up to now he has only faced some of his fellow American no-hopers.Bloody tough to get knocked out by them
