Does anyone think Roy Jones or Michael Spinks might have beaten Jeffries ?

UOTE="janitor, post: 18361997, member: 3871"]We are, I am just saying what Jeffries is in terms of todays division.

    I think that Jeffries was 6' 1.5''[/QUOTE]
He is listed as 6foot tall.

He is listed as 6foot tall.
Jeffries did not have the power of Tyson or Tua, this is demonstrated by the rounds little older, men managed to last with him. The comment applies to any heavyweight who weighs 212lbs and is 6 foot tall in today's heavyweight division.

What he could carry is irrelevant to this discussion ,we are comparing them as they were, not as they may have hypothetically been.

Where is your source that Jeffries weighed 220lbs when he ran it?

Choynski broke his nose,Fitz broke it in their second fight.
Jeffries examined Fitz's gloves in the ring before their second fight it's a documented fact.

But it is hypothetical. He never fought Wilder not trained to fight anyone remotely similar.

If you think the extra weight would help him, allow it to him.

Jeffries had two principal trainers Delaney and Ryan, Delaney always wanted Jeffries heavier, wanted him to come into the ring carrying around 220lbs,Jeffries felt he was more effective lighter,at about 208-212lbs.Ryan also subscribed to the idea that a lighter Jeffries was a better Jeffries. After Jeffries near brush with disaster against Corbett ,with Ryan in his corner telling him to box with Corbett and not press the fight and Jeffries falling behind on points as a consequence until Brady got up on the ring apron before the 19th rd and ordered Ryan to f*ck off, telling Jeffries ,you are losing your title you must force the fight, you have to knock him out!
Ryan was replaced by Delaney the man he had replaced before. I don't care what Jeffries weighs myself I just match men as they really were, not as some would prefer them to be.

I think this is probably the issue we disagree with most on these boards (the rankings debate the other day aside).

I'd rather match the version of a man that has the best possible chance of success.

Yes we disagree profoundly on it because the OP is saying we match Jeffries v Wilder or whoever against whoever, the actual versions that existed.I can't for the life of me see why you cannot accept that.Ive no problem with you or anyone else making a thread titled Jeffries or Whomsoever trained today with the benefit of modern advances in sports ?
But that is an entirely different version of the real Jeffries, and should be a separate thread!

I always use the fighter as is.

The problem with hypothetical versions of past fighters? It's not the same fighter.

Although like mcvey said, it's interesting once in a while to consider how changes in diet and fitness would affect guys like Dempsey.

And as long as that "version" actually existed at some point then that's fine.
