Povetkin is 41 years old. 41. Wilder would beat him IMO.

I think he should had been retired when he was 37 y.o.
He had some fights he won and they showed that he is over the hill.
No offense here, he had very long mileage under belt as ammy Kber and boxer, then impressive pro resume.
So long years he was in TOP3, TOP5 or TOP 10.
Lewis had retired when he was 38 y.o? I do not think that he was ducking someone, just body is body.
DLH had retired when he was 36 y.o. Holmes was over the hill when he was 36? . Marciano retired when he was 32. y.o.
I do not think this is shame, life is life.
Not all bodies are like Moore or Foreman, these are exclusions form rules not casual flowchart even for pro elite top level.

I don't know shape Wilder does have, he was strange after Fury I and even more strange after Fury II.

Whyte and Povetkin from 2020 th most likely had KTFOed Wilder from 2020 th.
Now Povetkin is post covid and he already is over the hill since he was 37 y.o.

Eddie just failed with cherry picked fight for Whyte and upset had happened.
Looks eddie is cursed, second time in row fail in cherry picking boxers for his cash cows.

I agree with you about how declined Wlad was in those fights.
But I was not referring to his bout with Wach at all.
I cannot tell what you mean he used this with a "glance" vs. Povetkin.
The language implies briefly; but that cannot be what you mean.

Having a talent for something that you do that is ILLEGAL, whether straight up against the rules like low blows, or doing something borderline, a matter of interpretation based upon how often you do it, is still straight up *cheating*.

We cannot tell if he would have beat Povetkin if he was not constantly holding, pulling, tying up, etc. This was NOT wrestling to get free to throw punches.
He might well have still won-or maybe he would have been the pone beaten to a pulp-but legally.
It was a disgraceful, continual & illegal thwarting of Sasha's offense by illegal means.

Likely even worse than Ali vs. Frazier 2.
The fact that the referee-due to a huge hometown bias-let him get away with it does not mean it was not terrible cheating.
If we start a thread about this, the vast majority will tell you the same.

4-5 years ago povetkin would have shattered wilders glass jaw , but he is too old now even for a can crusher like wilder.

Wilder is dangerous and will be dangerous as long as his career lasts, Wilder with his devastating punch will always pose a danger to every boxer in the heavyweight division. Povetkin can be betrayed by his age, but when I look at everything, this fight would be 50-50 ...

If covid hasn’t taken too much from him I’d favour Povetkin. Wilder never wanted anything to do with that fight.

Well, before WW2 in Western boxing clinch fight was very common and appreciated thing.

I too had used wrestlebox vs too hot sparring partners, they should not had been damaged and still might be allowed to go hard.
I think this was better solution than land on them head blows with 100% like in title fight.

I had mentioned because his size, dude was durable and larger size than Wlad.

Cos Wlad I think was one from most skilled in clinch/ holding game and he being also Oly champ in boxing was enough smart ( Wlad is very smart !) properly had evaluated his advantages and disadvantages vs Povetkin and used these with a glance. Cost he then was not too old, despite over the hill and carried more muscle mass and size than Povetkin. Wlad was very smart.
Pov is over the hill since he turned 37, he then had competed in elite level approx 20 years and get tired from hard work in fighting industry.

Wilder has so many openings and often takes rounds to find his mark to throw the right that I feel Povetkin would have his number -I still believe Povetkin disposes of him early. Although what I was once confident of a 100 percent Povetkin win I’m down to about 65-35 Pov ko win

And? Wlad at 41 would be #3 right now.

Being 41 doesn't mean being bad.

Nor does being 51, but it usually does; and we saw how many streets ahead of Povetkin Wladimir was when they actually met. A longer drop means a longer fall but also more m/psc where you remain viable against opponent x or y.

He doesn't have to be "bad" he just has to be slightly worse than Povetkin to lose this fight 51% of the time. I think he probably is that given his years.

If Povetkin can beat Whyte again he should retire into the sunset and be awarded a Russian medal of honor by Putin himself.

However he'd just look for a big payday against someone like Wilder and get brutally starched

Had you wrestled of boxed? I suspect that no.
Bad or not bad, skills or no skills. agility, recovery time after trainings, reflexes and speed does matter a lot.

It is very hard to understand for ppl who did not had wrestled or boxed etc alike activities with decently resisting opponents and without them having pre fight camps.
