It's funny how this news brought out the haters, because I was wondering where they were after Prizefighter. Why aren't people just happy Derry has what seems to be a good fight lined up - I mean who cares about the bauble that is attached? If it get's him a bit more money and exposure, then I don't really see the problem.
So is this fight going to be in Liverpool Derry? the Olympia? If so would love to come and watch when will you be able to talk about the opponent?
yes mate its in olympia , opponent will be announced next couple of days use will be happy if the fight comes of if not we have some one els lined up , but am praying he takes the fight , private message me il get tickets deliverd to u mate , all on sale from monday , the place will be a sell out
good luck derry mate, your gonna get critics but just keep boxing and doing your thing and hopefully we'll see you in a british title fight in the future. that or a decider with choi
I cant see any hate here. These kind of titles are not very popular with the die hard boxing fans, which is understandable.
Yeah it's nothing against Derry personally. I loved watching him get back to himself and potentially better than ever in the last Prizefighter. But I hate these belts what they mean for boxing. These kind of fights have killed so many good British level fights recently and as a boxing fan it's a shame. We don't even know who Derry's fighting yet so I couldn't say much anyway. From a boxing as a whole point of view though, I just hope this 'world title' fight doesn't get in the way of some potentially great domestic fights next year.
Derry Matthews is an absolute credit to this country..... BOUNCEBACKABILITY. the best jabber in the country... I would love to watch him win the IBO!! ****IN AVE IT DERRY!!
Alot of unfair criticism here I think. It's not about the letters before the belt, it's about the fighter that wears it. Shea Neary always felt like a 'World Champion' to me, and if Derry wins the IBO it will be a brilliant turnaround. Manny vs Hatton was for the IBO wasn't it? Also, my mate fought for the IBO so I'm a teeny bit biased. It's definitely a step up from the WBU. Lennox was never ashamed to sport his IBO Belt, neither was RJJ.
not everybody can unify the titles derry deserves a bit of luck hes had some tough fights and come back well he looks like hes got the love back after a little rest to recharge the batteries good luck to him i say theres some good fights at lightweight out there for him
