IMO he has two wins over Crolla, knocked out Coyle, sparked Woodhouse who beat Hamilton yet rarely gets no praise.

Id love to see the guy get a shot at a world champion, he wont win but it would be a deserving payday, some might laugh granted but if Paul Smith is excpecting a fight with Stieglitz why couldnt Matthews get a crack at one of the LWW champions.

Hopefully Mitchell could give him a shot if he picks up a title that would be a great fight for the British public

Definitely lost to Crolla the second time round, was being schooled by Coyle and Woodhouse is really not that good to be fair.

Decent fighter, but British level at most.

Matthews has always had a great skill set and good power. Its just a shame some of his flaws lets him down.

He's had a good career which he should be proud.

I really like watching him box and he is a nice lad but imo he is domestic level and would get beat at Euro level!! If he can make good money in good domestic bouts then there is no real harm in that, beating Gethin on Saturday he wasn't that impressive but managed to get the win but with other judges it could very easily have been Gethin who actually got the nod with his pressure.

I actually think Derry gets decent praise for the fights he has been all through his career and I'll always enjoy watching him because you know there will be some drama but at Lightweight I see him getting easily beat and maybe hurt by all of the belt holders!!

I wish he had stayed on Sky so we could have seen him in with Murray and Burns possible opponents and maybe as a step up for Luke Campbell too.

Spot on Davie i actually thought Gethin coulda had a shout imo , Derrys a cool lad but lacking when it comes to the step up , He got schooled by ormond whos a blown up SFW imo and from what i hear he chucked it after 3 rounds with Ricky with 16oz gloves on , as you say make some money from domestic dust ups does no harm , i personally think if he faces flannagan it will be a brutal stoppage

I cant believe some people actaully think Gethin won that fight lol.

As for the sparring rumour we will have to ask Billy about that......

If Mitchell was to pick up a title id love to see them two go at it

It seems to me he's a true pro. Boxing's so much in his blood, I reckon he'll stay on in the game in one capacity or another.

I never said I thought he won the fight but Derry certainly didn't dominate the fight!!! Imo it could have went either way!!

But if you look at Gethin's defence and the fact he was doing most of the pressing the fact that Derry looked like he was struggling with the pace and his work rate dropped after 4-5 rounds!!

Also 1 of the judges had it for Gethin so all it would have took was another judge to like his come forward style and he would still be champion!

At the end of the day Derry got the win he will get a few more pay days before he retires, so good luck to Derry!! I would like to see a rematch between Derry and Gethin in a neutral venue to see how much the crowd made a difference on Saturday?

Fearon's only good for regurgitating historical facts. Anything else and the TV goes on mute.

One of the most exciting fighters of the last ten years, but I think British level is about where he is at which is no shame..
