Rumour on boxrec was that he was winning the first 3 rounds easily and was pushed to the ground and not KD by a punch according to someone who was at the Arena. The majority are saying it was a BS stoppage anyway.
it was a push that got him down, he was hurt dont get me wrong an the stopage was bs, that particular ref is a joke IMO
Derry got robbed he was pushed to the floor. The ref ****ed up the count too! Thought the BBBOC had higher standard refs than that. Needs to be a no count. [yt]Rwb3sj3ZtZA[/yt]
What the **** is Warren doing with Choi?!?!?!? He's in the ring top 10, can't he even get him a shot against WBO champ Steve Luevano, put it as the main undercard fight on the next Khan bill, would actually give me justification for the price tag, Choi is a seriously hard *******! Still think Choi vs. Gamboa would be a right tear-up, and as he's in The Ring Top 10, he's a viable opponent for Gamboa.
What a **** stoppage!, maybe the ref seen the last two beatings he took and thought **** that, lets just have a early night!. Feel a bit for Derry though, dont think he should retire after that, he wasnt KO'd there.
I left a post on youtube after watching this video. if you watch the replay a few more times, you can see matthews on his knee at the count of five there's no way he would get up immediately- there is an obvious time-lag. It seems typical of this channel's broadcasting, based on biased reviews of fights i've seen in the past. blaming the ref for getting it 'all wrong'! indeed! would like to see the full count as this is just disingenuous editing to make it seem controversial in Matthew's favour where I bet it's anything but... he was Knocked down and unable to continue - the footage will surface at some point... watch again and see how derry's position has markedly changed between the 5 count and the continued 6 count [crucially from another camera angle]. see also how Harry goes to the corner and stays there [you see his back] yet when the overhead camera show the waving off, he is suddenly over the 'M' of the advertising on the canvas - this is impossible insta-movement from Ramogoadi, and if he was able to move this fast the fight would have been over much quicker!!
yeah the reports say the ref waved it of at 9, yet the count seems to only get to 6 on the replay. obviously somethings been cut in editing, doubt anything sinister though.
i'm afraid you would have to 'go some' to edit the footage AND sound in such a way to make it appear so ambiguous. ringside reports have noted that he got up at the count of nine, but again he was home favourite, and as a boxing-fan you know just how such reviewers can give weight to either fighter's viewpoint. reporting this fight as this channel did, pretending just to have the footage and no backgroud information etc., i.e. that he was up at nine, as some reporters have it [surely there would be some capable of reporting bouts just in case there were no TV cameras around!? ] is plainly misreporting the facts and pandering to the local viewers watching this channel ------------ i think
unless you saw the actual footage or were at the fight, then you wouldn't be able to tell how he looked when he stood up to the ref's inspection as to his ability to continue the fight. he might have been really unsteady, this footage just shows it being waved off as per lots of fights. i'd want to see this fight footage if possible, the way it was packaged and shown is totally misleading.
re watched the clip it's now obvious it was'nt called off at 6 as it pans away then back so he must of stayed down to 9, maybe ref looked into derrys eyes and knew there was time remaining and thought i better stop this before you get ko'd badly again.
the ref very likely just did his job! making him a scapegoat for an 'unjust' stoppage maybe gives Matthews hope for more high[ish] profile fights, but actually isn't true to what happened but there you are. Says a lot that there aren't more posts about Derry's loss, maybe that's all that needs to be said...
