After sleeping on it, he'll be okay. Devin's a good boxer, but still needs to polish his timing and grow stronger (looked quite skinny in there). Its fine that he didn't necessarily get the KO, but he simply didn't throw many combinations. For someone looking to hurt their opponent the lack of combos is concerning, seems a bit too focused on only throwing 1 2s. Sucks for fans, but in Haney's best interest its best he stays away from the top fighters for now.
I'm racking my brains trying to remember if I've ever seen a fighter wearing purple gloves score a stoppage before.
Problem for Haney now is that he's in the spotlight too soon and has that WBC title that he shouldn't have. He's now a world champion, with 20-odd fights, fans have to expect him to be fighting world class opponents, but since getting the WBC titles it was Santiago (who the ****?) and Gamboa (reitement home bound), he's not looked world class and hasn't been given an opponent looking to win. As a result all the shine has been taken off. The easy defense is "he's 21", yeah sure, but he's also the world champion, if he wants to be treat like a prospect that's fine, go do prospect things, if he wants to be taken as the WBC champion (in this horrible mess they've created) go face world class opponents. He's been a pro for 5 years, had 25 fights, and has looked really "dull" (talented but dull) in a good number of them whilst being sold as the next Mayweather. If his team are smart they match him with a B level, aggressive fighter next, an Andreev, Commey, Etc then have the mandatories afterwards, giving him a bit of momentum before facing Garcia/Campbell/Linares/Fortuna. He's not fan friendly, so they need to put him in with someone who can help hide that issue for now.
I don’t see him slapping around any of those guys for 12 except maybe Tank. Even that would be a questionable fight at this stage. Some guys mature more slowly and Haney looks like he needs a little more time before climbing that ladder. He would have a major size advantage against Tank but it would be smart for both guys to fight a couple legit LWs before fighting each other. That could be a good fight a year from now if both guys polish their skills a bit. Haney is definitely not a hype job. He has shown flashes and is still young. I don’t see anyone proclaiming him the future of the division. Lots of talented guys converging at LW. Teo is at the head of the class at the moment but that could change quickly. I just hope these guys don’t make LW the new Welterweight. Lots of talented guys who dont want to fight each other.
I try to stay clear from Forza's threads on purpose. Very predictable trolling, but if you call it out then it's easy to get the tables turned on you. I choose just to stay away and not entertain the arguments.
Yeah in the third round. Gamboa did not win another round and was knocked down FOUR times. The last one took him completely off his feet. Thanks for playing however
Because Crawford is much rougher, stronger and aggressive than Haney. I think Bud fights with a chip on his shoulder, coming from a place like Omaha. Obviously Tank is a top P4P puncher. He's stopping everybody. Haney is defensively responsible, so after offensive move he's immediately going to get out of harm's way. Especially against someone that is as dangerous as Gamboa. You're not going to see him continuously throwing wicked combinations going for KO's even though he does have good power. The OP is desperate.
easy to look defensive when all you throw is 1 - 2 then immediately grab your opponent when falling inside. horrible just horrible.
Gamboa didn't put a mark on his face. Ummm, Gamboa's face was unmarked is well. So? why is he proud? Who knows!! hell Loma would tattoo this foo face. Heck, If I was Loma i would take Devin right now...
Haney hasn't hit the ceiling and can get better. His competitive with the other top guys in the division.
He dominated the fight far more than anyone else against Gamboa. Also, wasn't he coming back from an injury? His power outtage is an issue however, at the elite, elite level, it may cost him. He's a very, very good boxer though. Also, you can't necessarily go the comparison route either, Tank is a bomber (albeit a small one) and it still took him 12 to bomb Gamboa. although some of that was the shape he was in and Crawford is a monster and quite frankly I doubt Haney ever gets to that level (and there's nothing wrong with that). I think Haney will be fine, he thoroughly dominated him. Knocking people out doesn't tell the whole story. Dominating them can tell quite a bit too.
You couldn't have possibly watched the fight if that's all you saw. He was slipping, pivoted and steering Gamboa the entire fight. Clinching was only part of defense. Lying is good for this forum.
Haney is good, but a tad overrated and not close to the Tank, Teo & Loma league Still that league is elite, its a very good division Haney would be the top dog @ 140
He didn;t dominate at all, he hardly landed anything significant on gamboa who is easy to crack on. Gamboa looked bored in there at times not even trying, just playing with the kid. The unknown mexican fighter that beat gamboa up and made him quit in the 7th round dominated him. And that was years ago.
