Did Bute have only to beat the count or also show he could continue ?

    Depends on the referee. Everything that might have mattered in this case was a total afterthought.

    To answer the initial question, yes. And, by raising his gloves, Bute did signify to the official his willingness to continue. Wright signaled to box, Bute took one step forward, and the bell rang. Fight over.

    Everyone's talking about the count, but that was done by the book. The real controvery lies in whether the fight should have been allowed to continue in the minute or so prior, when Bute was stumbling around the ring without any legs under him. If people want to make the case that Andrade was robbed of a stoappge victory, they should look at the squence that led up to the knockdown, rather then in the seconds that followed.
