Sometimes people need to be stopped from being too brave.

Actually, i do think that Malignaggi was right to be stopped. He had no chance of winning the fight and was taking unnecessary punishment. Khan - Maidana was very close and Khan hadn't been taking punishment like that as constantly. Remember, Paulie was beaten up throughout that fight. Same as Cotto - he was way down on the cards. What was the point in letting them continue?

I agree but Khan was lucid in his corner and went on to outbox Maidana. Khan didn't seem unduly hurt at the end of the fight either so I don't think it can be said that Cortez made a mistake and should have stopped it.

Kahn was in trouble and I've seen fights stopped for less but I think Cortez did and OK job in the 10th. He stopped Khan holding Maidana as much as possible, if he hadn't have we'd have threads about Kahn being allowed to hold on when hurt!!

Def. a 10-8 round for me. On Big Dunks point, if Maidana had of scored a knockdown at the end of the round why would there be a problem scoring it 10-7?

Agreed. IMO If he floored him that would of been worthy of a 10-7. Let's face it he could of got outboxed but dropped Khan twice with cuffing shots in last minuted and got a 10-7. So Dominating near on the whole 3 minutes for me is worthy of 10-8 and a knockdown would of made it 10-7 for me. Would of been a totally dominant round.

Yes it would IMHO. 10-8 without a KD, 10-7 with one.

  7. IMO if Maidana had dropped Khan early in round 10, prompting Khan to spit out his gumshield to gain extra time and receive a warning for doing so, then totally dominated the rest of the round before dropping him again in the last 30 seconds, with Khan having a point deducted for again spitting out his gumshield, then it would have been a 10-5 round to Maidana and he would have won the fight.

    I agree, would be a 10-7.

To me, being decked shouldn't automatically mean a 10-8 round - I know there's nothing in the rules to say it has to be, but it does seem an unwritten rule/rule of thumb.

Dominating a round should count for more than going 50-50 or even losing a round but scoring a KD - depending on the KD of course.

Look at round 1 of Cotto vs Clottey..... Clottey probably won 80% of that round, another example is round 7 of Moore vs Rhodes. Moore was winning the round, was decked, got up, was landing some big ones before getting caught again.

If that round had finished the way it was going, rather than resulting in a stoppage, how would you have scored it?

yeah mate, i spotted that live, khan was doing the dot to dot to his corner after the 10th......

i thought maybe he wouldnt get of his stool or roach may stop it, and i certainly thought that maidana would get the stoppage in 11.

khan was helped by the ref like against limond, that's clear for all to see.

Cortez must've got over his grudge towards the British. Remember, as Hatton pointed out, Cortesz ****ed him over against Mayweather, as his fans had booed the US anthem before the fight. For Cortez, time must've healed that wound.

no cortez should not of stopped the fight khan was moving the whole round and knew what was coming at him.

i dont get it most of use moan about early stoppages and then we get an entertaining round like this and u call for the fight to be stopped straight away.

khan was in trouble but getting through rounds like that is part of boxing and part of why they train so hard.

khan had movement and a defence so no need for it to be stopped , yeah we see stoppages for less but there **** decisions so dont compare them to this , cortez did his job well.

Should it bollocks have been stopped in the 10th, so Amir had a ringing in his ear, and he was under pressure, but after the initial first assault, he covered up nicely and rode it out, he wasnt being punched from pillar to post, he looked like he had his faculties about him, he was aware when Maidana was about to throw a shot, and reacted and covered up accordingly, he was moving around the ring aware that the guy was trying to finish him, he was not struck dumb waiting to be KOd ALA Bruno, he reacted defensively and hats off to the kid...
