No he wasn't exposed that is a term too often used once an undefeated fighter losses their 0. Cotto had already established himself as a top level fighter at welter and still is in my opinion. Cotto is a very good fighter, without a doubt but he isnt the complete package, but then again who is, every fighter has flaws. Cotto has a propensity to leave himself open to the uppercut based on his stance and I always beleived Margarito would take advanatage of that, which he did. Margarito simply proved last night why he has been avoided by the top fighters. I hope Maragrito gets some due recognition from the fans now and like other top mexican fighters gets the kind of support and therefore financial clout to get more big fights made.
he was exposed as a front runner he's good when he can control the fight.....but against a fighter like margarito who set a bigger pace he can't handle it
He seems like a sturdy enough ******* he'd probably take a punch well. But he'd take too many of them and his pressure wouldn't be affective enough.
Yeah thats nothing new. I think everybody new that. What your saying is more along the lines of his skills are just above average. Not the case. What got proven was that Margo could do it. Tonights more of a validation that Margo is better then most thought he was. Not a conformation that Cotto is worse then people thought he was. You seem to think the latter.
Sure he's not a complete fighter. But there aren't too many fighters out there that are as complete as he is. Off the top of my head JMM springs to mind. And maybe Pac and Calzaghe.....but everyone else that I would rate as better then him does it by capitalizing on some freakishly strong attribute(s).
Stayed up til 6am to watch this fight. I've been watching Cotto for some time now and wanted him to win, but as soon as i knew the fight was official i was worried for Miguel. Cotto wasnt exposed, but the PR/MEx. rivalry and bravado definetly played a part in my opinion. Once he got really hurt in the 6-7 round he begun exchanging with Marg. rather then using his movement and countering. Cotto didnt stick to his game plan and i'm sure he'll watch the tapes and realise that he should have maintained his movement. I'm not buying the reason that Margarito was too big for Cotto, Cotto was boxing very will up until he lost respect for Margarito in the fight and believed he could chill on the ropes and not get hurt. Cotto has these moments in a lot of fights, i couldnt understand it when watching it and havent watched it for a second time yet, but surely the Cotto camp trained hard enough for Miguel to box on the move for 12 solid rounds. In the second round Cotto nose probably got broken and IMO that was the beginning of the end for Cotto going the distance at the same pace. Cotto will be back, Well done to Margo, he wanted it and he got it.
he was not exposed. he didint have anything left to offer. he left it all in the ring. the only way a champ should lose. he gave his all and his stamina gave in on him. he was beaten and didint have a thing left to offer.
Very true, but you said natural size and strength at welter? Like people have been saying that Margo is a bad match for Cotto, Paul Williams is a bad match for Margo. He would have 2 inches on Margo as well as a 9 in reach advantage. Plus, he can just box and not lose steam like Cotto. I would like to see how Margo treats Williams a 2nd time. That fight would definitely show who is THE #1 welter.
